Denso Iridium Plugs

I just picked up a 15% alta pully and an alta cai. I was thinking about picking up some denso ik-22 iridium plugs for my mcs.

I dug up these on ebay.

My question is even though these are listed for subaru's are they not the same plug i would put in my mini. I was kinda thinking they were prob the same but just gapped differently. I have read you can actually gap teh iridium plugs but you have to be very carefull how you do it so you don't break the element.

I was also considering ordering them from detroit tuned but they were considerably more expensive and they didn't specifically list them as ik-22's or ik-20's. I suppose i could just call and ask.

Can anyone please advise.

P.S. Yes i did use the search feature and found a few other therads similar to this one but none that were current. So sorry if this ? offends.

All of the IK22 plugs are the same. That is the plug I am running and have had no problems at all. Another place to get them is http://www.apwonline.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=98.

I heard that these plugs are a PITA to re-gap. The IK22's have a gap of .8mm and factory is 1.1mm (I think). Is anyone regapping these plugs?

My understanding is that these plugs are not to be re-gapped because the iridium electrode is so tiny and fine that it is easily damaged.

You can regap them but you don't need to. Keep them at .8mm.

I tried to re-gap one....and I totally ruined it.

From what I've read here they come properly gapped from the factory for our application...If you do a search you can read about it till your eyes bleed.

I've gapped them. Good tools and being careful work well.
Leaving them at .035 works well though so there is really no need.

With the correct tools they are easy to adjust the gap. Just be carefull.
I set mine to .038 because I have a high output coil pack.

I have had 22s in my Mini for over a month and they work really well.
Just make sure you re-check your torque setting on the plug install several times and always when engine cold.
I torqued mine at 22 ft lbs. and have checked them 3 times - and each time they needed some more seating.

Lots of threads on this subject elsewhere.

exactly

The advice to prefer the Iridium spark plugs, use the IK-24's, and leave them at the out of the box gap setting is excellent advice for the performance oriented and tuned engine crowd. These are the current state of the art consumer spark plugs. Review this PDF file at the Sparkplugs.com website for an engineering update: http://www.sparkplugs.com/pdfs/iri.pdf
