Well, I just found out that SF is 12/03 build. Yea, it won't work. So I guess I have to get the '02-'03 shift kit.

I would highly recommend it. I would also suggest throwing a Whalen on it too. They just fit together nicely.

I have the Alta on my car and love it. Another option to look at would be the new Craven Speed shifter. It is priced right and is super high quality. It is the easiest shifter to adjust throw. Just twist the nut on the shaft and the shifter goes from 0-50% in seconds (or anywhere in between).

Check it out here: Craven Speed Shifter

We also carry the Alta, Fidanza, and Helix shifter options.

I have the Helix unit in my car. I wanted the shorter shifting, but I wanted to leave the shifter a stock length. I really didn't want my arm in the cup holders. I like it a lot, and have sold several after people have driven my car. I also sell a lot of craven speed shifters. they are priced well and are easy to adjust on the fly, with out tools. both are good units but personally I would rather spend $44 over $159, but both units are good. I sell both. hope that helps. feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Outmotoring.com has a link to the installation instructions for a B&M short shifter and it mentions the posibility of vibrations. I had a B&M in my previous car (SR20 powered sentra) and the vibrations drove me nuts if I used anything other that the stock shift **** which was heavily lined with rubber. Has anyone had vibration problems with the B&M in their MINI?

We offer a shift unit that allows the use of the stock ****, the Whalen unit, or our own design (as well as any of the aftermarket set-screw type knowbs). It is very simple to adjust, using a collet style locker, and will not spin from the fore/aft orientation when loosened for adjustment. It is available in two variations - early and late production cars. We also use the best materials in the industry.

Let me know if you have any other questions at all!

Webb Motorsports Short Shifter

Hope that helps,
Randy

I've had a B&M in my 05 S for (probably) over 6 months now. I don't have any vibration through the shifter. I haven't noticed it stiffening up either (like some people have mentioned in previous threads). Mine has been smooth and solid since it was installed.

Back in the earlier posts, I mentioned that I wanted a shroter throw, not a shorter shaft.

Ditto. Mines over 3 years old with no real issues. You can always use the stock bushings. Softer. I tried them and got rid of them.

Powerlex motor mounts made a bigger difference in this regard.

BTW, just caught the Discworld reference.

The Helix which has about a 40% reduction in throw, and the Ultek which works the same way but they clain an ideal 20% reduction in throw.. Can anyone comment on these units... Thanks
Hey Mike,

The biggest appeal to me of the B&M was the metal bushings. They are the thing that gives each shift that solid feel. When I had some warranty work doen with my car I was given a loaner and the shifter just felt vague. Not to mention I'm really used to my Whalen **** so the stock **** just felt ginormous.

For people with '04 model year cars, I was told you can tell by the color of the main shift housing when you lift the boot. If the housing is gray, then the '04 and newer one is right. If it's white then you need the '02-'03 one. Is that how it worked out for you?
