Drivetrain Engine Damper from Sales@shoe-in.net
Engine Damper from Sales@shoe-in.net
Has anyone besides me recently purchased a engine damper,
and are wondering (like me) how to install the dog-on thing.
Package came without any instructions.
Any help would be appreciated.

Somehow my searches for this thread came back with no results.
No slight upon the seller, but my package did not arrive with the instructions - guess it wasn't necessary since they were obviously readily available on the original thread.
Thanks again guys.

Hmmm, you bought it from Shoes Group Buy didn't you?
Click on Forums on left, and click Vendor Group Buy. It's a huge thread at the top, can't believe you couldn't find it.
Anyways, I got mine yesterday, and lost my bell washer during installation. I read the instructions, and had it on my laptop, and I still screwed up.
Oh well, the damper is once again removed from my MINI until I find a replacement part. I will give it a go again next week.
Support has been excellent from Shoe so I'm not worried.

for those (like me) who repeatedly dropped (or worse, lost) the bell washer, here's a tip. the instructions recommend you attach the block end first, then the frame. i reversed it. put the bolt into the heim joint, put the bell washer on top, then insert the bolt into the bottom of the frame location using a finger to keep it in place in the damper. once you attach the nut on top, then go attach the block end. worked better for me. see this post for more details: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&postcount=449

There are pics...
in the group buy thead...
1) Its a vertical cut, and a horizontal cut. You'll end up with a little triangle of metal.
2) Put some newspaper over the front of the motor. It will be a pain, but it will keep the grit out of the belt system, and the altenator will attract all the filings, because it's slightly magnetic.
3) If you do a new hole, keep it less than an inch closer in. If you do a full inch or farther, it will be too close.
4) You may need to dremel out access for the 17 mm wrench to get to the head of the bolt. Others have used needle nose pliers.
Good luck!

Well, mine didn't fit on my 2002 either, sooooo, did some cutting and shaping and grinding and was able to fit it into the right space - problem remains that it is just too far to reach back into the sheetmetal to get the little bell washer and the bolt all in there - much less any wrench to hold the bolt while it is being tightened from above. I don't see a solution to this unless someone comes up with a plan to build a bracket for the 02 and 03 guys.
I've seen the Texas one now but I don't want to give up on this damper we have yet.
Let me know if something comes up y'all.

Still - very hard to get it all back in there to tighten.
When my wife gets back I'll take a picture of what cut out and ground. Perhaps tommorrow.
FOR YOU 02 GUYS:
If you don't want to cut into your sheet metal to get your damper installed, you may want to check out this thread from TX:
http://www.metroplexmini.org/forum/s...ad.php?t=15738
These guys have a few extra 02-04 bracket still available. You can also PM scobib on this forum.
Here's a pic of their 02-04 bracket:

and one of the 05-06 brackets installed:

Also, this thread is asking questions that have been answered in the original "Engine/Motor Mount Group Buy" thread. This doubling up really makes it harder for guys like me who want to help out, I'm having to post the same info into two threads....

Matt: The problem comes from the fact that mounting an engine damper on our cars, regardless of the year, requires some fabrication or modification, with few exceptions. The damper sold in the group buy is basically a generic eurethane damper like the one sold last year, by NRG (the one I have) and many others in the JDM crowd. So, in one sense, this discussion belongs here as it refers to mounting hardware and installation issues for most engine dampers. The other view is that it should be merged with the Vendor thread, but that pretty much excludes people like me posting, as I don't have that particular damper. As a person close to the moderators, I suppose you can make that call. I'd like to see it stay here, but become more inclusive of all engine damper mounts.
cheers,

Exactly! What an unfortunate title, as by that title it should be in the Vendor forum, but as it stands now the contents of the posts refer to a much more general issue of mounting engine dampers.
I can see that a thread entitled "Alta CAI install" should be separate from one titled "Typhoon CAI install" since these are different products, but honestly, especially seeing the photo of the Shoe-In damper disassembled, that damper is identical to my NRG except for the etching on the body and the grease nipples on the heim joints.
cheers,

This morning I put a very little drop of Gorrilla-glue on the bolt to slightly hold it to the non-adjustable end of the damper.
I also put a VERY SMALL drop on the beveled washer on the other side. This will hopefully allow me to get this bolted end back into the original hole without once again dropping the bolt or the washer. (done several times)
I do plan on opening the front hole (as pictured in Dr.O's install) to get a wrench in there to allow tightening of the bolt once I get the nut on the top.
This will leave the adjustable end to attach to the engine, and allow future adjustments if necessary.
I should be finished this afternoon, I'll let you know how it goes.

You can change it but it only only change the title in the first post of the thread. It will still appear everywhere else as the original title.
I like this thread. The Vendor Group Buy thread makes it VERY hard for me, a vendor to post. Actually, I'm restricted from posting even though I don't sell engine dampeners, that's why NAM allows me to temporarily use an alternate non vendor account.
But switching back and forth is a pain in the ****.

Now that it is installed I have to agree, the transitions between shifts are much smoother and the engine doesn't seem to be beating it self up as I rev through the gears.
Try it out, the glue helps get things started much easier.
