Yeah. I'm only concerned about the louvres for the rain issue.

I know a few ways to mitigate it, though. put the louvres over the strut towers, for example.

why is rain such a problem if it does not get into the intake....?

because your engine has electrical tidbits that are opposed to water.

Well, I just think that our little 1.6s are very adversely affected by heat and what I really want is a Elise style sculpted bonnet wher the left side is perfectly matched to flow the air out of the DFIC.......at the same time inverting a perfectly flow matched "scoop" on the right side to ram air into the intake the AGS and HAI position seems to be perfect (I know that Dave from DDM is putting some thought to this for my 62) for that but there needs to be some sort of partition to keep the hot air out...... I can see it in my minds eye but I need Sid's design skills and Will and Matt to give it some thought and .... Oh yeah .....money to fabricate it.....

Sorry guys, I have been busy getting several bikes painted for Sturgis.

I am also up in the air on whether to make the scoop part of the hood or keep it as part of the intake. And with the big rush of interest in the MSFITOY louvres It may be better to seal the box to the underside of the hood.

I was planning on making this as production ready as possible, but with already cutting the bracing out from the hood and cutting the hole that thought is gone. As I posted earlier This whole project could come together as a system. (hood, intake, heat extraction) as in Cervinis mustang and f150 hoods. But for those already involved break out your cutting tools!:impatient

And if anyone has a question about water in the engine bay, I can attest that no problems experienced. As you can see in the photos posted earlier and in my gallery. The filter was right their for all the elements to see.

Blah blah blah, sorry was trying to make it simple. Gotta go film now for Metric Revolution TV

It would be easy enough to fab a box/duct that attaches under the hood with an inlet the comes down right behind the DFIC and an outlet coming out to the surface of the hood to a vent/louver, so that all the air coming through the DFIC passes right out.
As far as the Ram Air into the AGS/HAI/stock air box, that's what we're working on here.

I know.... what I was getting at is the very nicely sculpted vents on the GT-40 or the Elise

Great flames on your car and the bike. Can you share more photos of the bike you're prep'ing for Sturgis?

Just ordered my Ram Air Scoop(and a 2% crank pulley)from Peter.
Thanks again, Peter.
Once I get that fitted, it will be off to my new found carbon fiber/fiberglass friend Chris at Composite Design Studios to help with the modification of the stock scoop and hopefully come up with something to go behind it to the hood.

update:

waiting for UPS today(hopefully)to come with some materials so I can complete this.

I have made up my mind that the hood scoop will be something commercially available. Not only to make my life easier, but also for others wanting to install the airbox. I also believe with a little work, My project will work with MSFITOYs' louvres. So in short, the airbox will be one that the end user can utilize a multitude of hood scoop ideas. I will post pics when complete and that will be soon. Thanks

Here is a before pic: Note the header tank I fabbed about a month ago, I copied it from Cantons design only made it larger.

Its funny you say that! If anyone is interested, PM me. Also, I have just hooked up with a major manufacturer of fiberglass hoods, and Things may be looking good for a fully functional "RAM AIR" hood for the Mini Cooper S. Renderings are being drawn as we speak, as well as photoshop concepts.

Obehave, I am very interested on what you measured with the Alta box. I just modified my Alta box to REALLY seal. I am not using their top, because you have so many holes all around this box. I made my own and sealed all openings with tape.

I am wondering if you sealed the opening under the Alta filter, that brings air from the front of the MINI - The stock air intake. I am thinking that if you expect the Alta filter to suck any air from the cowl area, this air source should be sealed close. Only then, the pressure from the engine sucking air will "help" the air from the cowl area be sucked in to the Alta filter. In a few words, the straw has too many holes and it will work better if the front air intake is closed.

If a scoop is used, like the one BFP made with the Y tube, might work well then. Or the ones Benfer made, could work.

I am wondering if the numbers you got might improve if that front air source, working against the airflow we want from the cowl, might improve when it is sealed.

PS. I did this and like the way the car is driving now. No numbers, but it feels better than the standard Alta installation.

3. Pickup in the cowl sealed off with a plastic bag. It was a pain but isolated just the cowl area.
4. Alta box all sealed off with, yes, plastic.
5. Pickup inside the filter
6. Pickup inside the intake tube just above the TB.
7. Pickup down inside the inlet tube that leads from the front grill.
