I was a little sceptical that this would look good at first, but now it's done it really does work well! Are you going to leave them as bare metal, or paint them to match? The two tone silver looks kinda cool.

You're a braver man than I

Other than that, You have a really nice car!
Form or function, you made your choice. Sid is ALL about function but the form on his car isn't bad either . If a product does what it is supposed to do , and in this case the louvers lower the underhood temps , and you are a function over form guy then looks will not matter . The fact that they were working on other cars should not be held against them and not allowed to WORK on the Mini. Some people build their cars are for looks which is fine and some are built for performance which is also fine , it's all good

P.S AMAZING job Sid!!

Looks great Sid!

Been watching this with great interest (and a slight pucker)

From the guy with the cleanest car at the orignial Detroit pulley party to the guy who STILL has the cleanest (& tightest) car, with crazy-*** mods

Sid, you/your MINI are serious pieces of work! Thanks for sharing in another envelope-pushing project.

Thoughts:
Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought you weren't going to remove the cross-members under the bonnet? From the "looking up" from under the bonnet shot, they appear to be gone (weight savings, I guess).

I read your comments about rivets etc., but would love to see the fins afixed from underneath and blended into the bonnet. I do appreciate that this IS purpose-built first/foremost & that the blended finish involves filler, paint & a bunch more work/expense. Just thinking out loud.

Lastly, the A$$ end of the DFIC does look like it could see some benefit @ speed - bernoulli, V

As for the temp in the garage & bugs... Showering is NOT the answer. Stay dirty, lift arms/expose pits & you'll kill em all LOL Problem solved

uh, how you gonna paint them now?
I'll take them off some other time...I've painted with high temp ceramic silver...looks like cast aluminum in person Maybe I'll end up being too lazy and leave them as they are...

Underhood temp? They'll be cooler...that's pretty much a no brainer...I never did any delta readings before the surgery anyway...

As far as routing air from DFIC...you can see from the above posts that the louvers are positioned directly above and behind the exit...the hot air will find it's way via the shortest and lowest pressure point...above the louver surfaces where the air speed is relatively fast and would naturally cause a vacuum under the hood...

Thanks for the kind words minimc I wanted this to be foremost functional with just enough finish to get by without bailing wires showing Keeping it "honest" for now...For the "Master Show Piece", I have many plans to accomplish the same function but that will be much further down the line...

Big Thanks Peter (M7) for setting me up with these louvers...now that I've shown you guys how, I want to see at least 30 of you guys get this done by Monday

If you didn't put the underhood insulation back on yet, can you snap me a pic of the drivers side vent back where the hood meets the cowl? Thanks

Hey, I say we just ship them to Sid.

The skill and tools are at his house.

I just wanted to see if there was any more bracing toward the back of the hood, other than what's shown in this pic...

Thanks Scott...I wouldn't go so far as to call it OEM finish...maybe after four pints it does ...it helps to have a bit of "risk taker" personality if you want to get something done...

Super job Sid!

To boldly go where no nibbler has gone before!

So now the next version of a carbon fiber hood can incorporate these, providing Sid with major royalties!

Sid... rocks as always...

I wish I had a camera today as what I saw made me instantly think of you and this project.

A guy in a really sweet m3 (newer body style) pulled up next to me and I have seen him before as he has done quite a number of mods to the car but one I had not seen hit me today.

The top of his hood had the louvers but the difference is that they were sculpted as part of the hood. I am not sure if he had this done or bought the hood like this but would love to know how it was done. It looked amazing!

What was even more cool is that each side had 2 basically because the hood has a slope and instead of the louver crossing the slop it stopped and ocntinued on the other side. I am having a really hard time explaining it and may sound crazy to you guys.

Has anyone seen this before?

chris

i love how those louvers look on those M3's. Randy actually has a guy on his show team that has those slats.....they look amazing

I wish i could find some like the ones pictured on this MINI: http://www.motoringunderground.com/f...ead.php?t=2210

These look a lot like those in some way....unfortunately our hoods aren't sculpted like the BMW's so it can't work AS well....but still well

I've looked into this...it's a universal piece by Erebuni...unfortunately, if you look at this application in plan view, the lines of the louvers are dead straight to the world...not following the Mini's lines...M7's louvers are a better alternative to get the job done

Note the swepted back louvers which mimic the windshield's base...My execution lacks the execution of the above example but still flows better IMDO...

Small details count in my world...
