Shrick Cam Review

I had the Shrick "Race" (the only cam available for the S from them now) by Pat Wallis of Wallis Motorsport this past Friday. He also installed an Alta 0% lightweight crank pulley as well.

The car is amazing now, it really pulls strong from 3500 and up. Passing in 3rd can get illegal in a hurry. Reving the car, especially in the lower revs really moves a lot quicker (I think this is a result of the lightweigh crank pulley.) It is amazing how heavy the stock unit is.

The idle really isn't bad at all, although I updated my MTH to reflect the addition of the cam, and I believe (but dont have any facts to say one way or the other) that they did raise the idle slightly, as the car idles around 900-1K, but otherwise the car really does not "hunt" to find its idle. You can however, tell that there is something done when compared to listening with a stock cam'd engine idling.

I did loose about 3" of vacuum at idle, but it doesnt seem to affect the brakes or anything like that.

While this isnt a cheap mod and pretty much you can kiss the engine warranty good bye after this, it is worthwhile if you have the supporting mods.

I dynoed before and was putting down 187 HP/168 lbs/ft tq (105F on the dyno in June in Florida, not too shabby). I cannot wait to see the difference after the latest round of mods (Header, High flow cat, 380cc injectors, Shrick cam and lightweight crank pulley.)

The butt dyno really feels like I have picked up at least 10-12. I cant wait for some cold air this fall!

I have to say those who were afraid they were going to lose driveability or were worried about installing this cam, I have to say you have nothing to fear. Low end lost little if nothing on my car. All in all, I highly suggest this mod!

Next year...M7 Cosworth head!

I wonder if this Shrick cam would do anything for a JCW MCS. I'm not sure if the JCW runs the same cam as the stock MCS - probably does, though I'd like to hear from someone who knows. I used to build up VW bugs and the addition of even a mild cam really woke the engibne up.

Glad you've had such success - with that kiind of heat down there you really should look into M7's DCIF - what a great temp drop when moving!

Happy motoring!

Glad to hear..... I went from stock to the old Schrick "street" cam and then to the "race" and did not notice any low end loss at all with he race cam in fact it seems to have increased but a lot more mid and especially high end performance..... idle is fine.....

I can confirm this as well, Pat had a JCW cam sitting on the bench he had pulled out of a JCW a week before, it had the same part numbers as the stocker.

I think a JCW could benifit from this as well. Put a header on there and a 2% crank and hang on to the wheel!

You might pick up a few, but there are so many cheaper mods that I would persue first, i.e. pulley / exhaust / header / cai

yeah, you will benefit from just the cam. Everything else compliments the cam.

SpiderX,

What you would you probably want/need to do before doing the Cams besides the usual?
