GruppeM Ram Air Intake for Cooper S....anyone?

Is anyone using the GruppeM intake? If so what are your impressions?

I was offered to run this intake from my tuner as a sponsored product. I hate to give up my Madness CAI. The price on the GruppeM intake is over $1000 as it is all CF....ouch!

Very expensive toy indeed, but the built quality is extreme, to say at least.
I was quoted, last year, almost 1150euro here in Greece.

The JAPAN site lists FRI-0301 for 123900JPY that is 850euro.

Interesting how they redesigned the hose that comes from behind the grill.

I think there is some merit in that design but don't care for the 90 degree turn or the bends in the stock one.
The stock inlet at the radiator support is great design. I’ve been studying this area for a future Mod. using the stock air box, Alta hose, chamfered throttle body with K&N cone filter and different air entry.

$1000.00 + bucks for an intake! Unbelievable!

Just curious. What are the thermal properties of CF?
Is this thing at least 2 layers with a sandwiched insulator for that much money?

Ive been using one for the last 2 or so years and am quite happy with the outcome. It does make a very sweet noise and the temps remain low within the airbox due to the cowl hole.
Not saying its worth what ever price I paid for it but its very pretty and works well. The build is perfect, the installation is perfect and this is why I would recomend if the means are available. I really only got it as I live in a hot climate and its an enclosed box.

A warning though, I had to scout around for an IC that would fit with it since it is so large and found the onl one that fits along side it is the GRS.
(As you can see by the tight squeeze in mine)

Why not? Some people install thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment in their Minis, some buy massively large and expensive rims and some have even paid the same amount for a JCW CF dash. Whats the problem with spending extra under the bonnet?
Not everyone likes the budget minded parts in their cars

I guess the intake costs more than 1k if you have to buy a different I/C.

Soo....1k plus 1k = .....2k...right? ok.

Sorry should of been clearer. The only 'Aftermarket' IC I found that fits is the GRS. The OEM fits no problems due to its small size
