What the &%$#@& is VGS

Before anyone starts pounding me with "do a search"...someone just explain what it is. I have searched and found the diagrams and instructions that another member put up. I cannot figure out what it is and why to do it...aswell as this bypass valve fix (???) the fella's at detroit tuned did.

To keep this thread neat and short someone please take 5 and explain to me the what, how, why's of these two things. It seems like a lot of people have done it but I can't find any real explanation on them.

VGS- Vacuum Gain System: A play on the AGS or Air Gain System. Takes the vacuum directly from the intake manifold so that it effectively increases (unless I'm screwed up...) the amount of vacuum on the BPV (ByPass Valve) so that it closes more quickly, thus boost comes on more quickly.
That's it.

Here's the simplified explination, its a fairly common mod on SC'd cars; I was talking to the guy at the auto store when I bought parts (kinda odd list, so he asked some questions) he said he had done it on his Lightning.

The VGS gains vacuum by getting it from a different source than stock.
oh yeah, its the best 5 bucks I've spent on the car.

Care to elaborate? I know it has varied levels of effectiveness but I thought the experiance gained from IC removal and locating of other pars witht eh IC off value enough for my time, and it cost less than the equvalent of 2 gallons of gas. The only time I've heard of it causing problems is when it wasn't done right, but I'd be interested to hear why you disliked it so much.

Please explain. Most people that have done the "VGS" mod say they see a notable improvement. On this car I can't see that there is any change with the mod but I realy have not had the time to realy drive it hard... too much rain ( when I do have time, can say the DSC works well in the wet ).
