VGS mod:2006S Has it worked for you?
I know this has been discussed adnausium but I'd like to hear from owners of 2006 S's that have done the mod and their impressions of how it affects performance, mpg etc...

Also, if you have a Detroit tuned BPV, your impressions on that mad too...
Thanks

I did the VGS mod on my '06 S a few months back, and un-did before I went through one tank of gas. Boost definitely came on quicker at lower RPMs, however, driveability suffered; the car was more jerky when transitioning from part-throttle to no throttle. After hearing about the increase in pre-IC temps, I don't regret the removal.

Here's my experience :

I first did VGS. I loved the way it would help eliminate the yo-yo.

Then bought a DT BPV. This is THE mod to do!! I kept both for a long time.

1 month ago, after reading about someone who did pre-intercooler/post-intercooler temps with & without VGS, I was shocked! So I removed the VGS, and my fells a lot better...

Bottom line (for me), I love DT BPV!!! As I said, this is THE mod to do!

This is my sentiment EXACTLY!

I am undoing mine after driving around for about a day. The torque hit is nice, but makes the car very jerky.

I do have the BPV coming in this week so well see how that goes.

Hey ekim, you drove my car, did you think it was jerky? I think it is very smooth. You can modulate the gas to close the valve easily... or not, kind of like having a big vaccumn secondery on a Rochester....
The temp issue is a different deal, I have not seen it on this car, although others have, with & without tunes, I just can't speak to the issue...

If you try the VGS mod & don't like it, it's no big deal to switch back.

i just installed the vgs mod today. I put the tee below the FPR , and it only took me about 20 min (and $7). The biggest difference was that it was much eaiser to take off from a dead stop.

Hi Steve,
Yes I did, it drove just fine. I'm trying to determine if the VGS mod works as well for the 2006 as it seems to for the earlier models. BTW, How's your IC working for you?

Mike, it sounds like some 06 cars have different reactions. There are quite a few MCS cars in this area, most older than 06. The only 06, that I know of, with the VGS mod, drives like mine. You can modulate the peddle, feel & hear the SC. Sometime this week we are installing an M7 pulley ( I doubt the driveability- with the VGS mod - will change much, just more power. If it is jerky I'll let you know ).

The IC is different. I'm not sure what to make of it. When the engine gets to temp there is a huge difference in power. The recovery time is very good, easily 2x faster than the OE unit, evenwith the Alta diverter. So far, it continuues to suprise, as the almost non existant deverter on the IC itself, seems to do a good job. On the highway, this thing realy does as advertised. I need to convince someone nearby to get a DFIC to compair with ( I still believe the M7 design is best for the job )

I would try the VGS mod & if you don't like it it's easy to undo....
