wider pulley's and belt?

What are the downsides to building wider pulley's for a wiber belt for less chance of shredding belts? Or would the chance of shredding still be the same?

Thats a good idea....I wonder if the wider pulley might put to much stress on the supercharger shaft...

Wouldn't you have to widen all the pullies in the engine compartment?
Now you are adding more mass that has to be moved and creating more drag. I think it would take away efficiency and HP.

Maybe wider is not the answer. I swear I saw a "toothed belt" conversion kit for the mcs. It was from some company that makes them for VW's

edit: here it is:

oops, i thought it was a kit for our cars. I wonder how much belt slippage there actually is.

not slippage but shredd..age...

belt shreds
tensioner goes to full unload
slams into crank pulley doing god knows wat to your car...hopefully just the tensioner breaks..

Hey-lo....lol...the belt has thick ridges [much thicker than on our belts, to counteract the extra stress of the perpendicular force]! It acts kinda like a chain, a la HUGE *** BLOWERS on drag racing cars . So, yeah, they run belts with large ridges with those metal cogs. As the site says, this allows less tension and less power loss. It probably helps with blower longevity, given the lower tension. [read the site about this- their idea, not mine!]

PS: When our belts slip/stretch, they do the same thing with the tensioner...
