Drivetrain WMS Pulley and HDI Intake...WOW!!!
WMS Pulley and HDI Intake...WOW!!!
I'm sure similar posts as this have been made before, but I just can't help myself. I just had a Webb Motor Sports 15% pulley and HDI Intake installed on my 06 MCSc on Saturday by non other than Randy Webb himself. The install took place at EF1 Motorsports in Signal Hill (Long Beach), CA at the FINAL LA Pulley Party. I hadn't planned on a pulley upgrade so soon after purchasing (March 06 - 2300 Miles) but I couldn't pass up the opportunity when I found out about Randy's last LA Party.
It's amazing to watch Randy and Brian installing pulleys. Randy has it down to a science and Brian is not far behind. Randy is also a fountain of knowledge when it comes to the Mini and was very willing to answer questions and offer advice.
Ok, now for my reaction to the upgrades. Wow, the pulley reduction makes all the difference in the world. The low end is so much more responsive and my but dyno registers about a 10% increase in Hp. Randy was right when he said a while back that this is the way the S should have come from the factory. The HDI intake is also awesome. It really lets you hear the SC and it looks fantastic under the hood. This is really a well built intake for a reasonable price.
I snapped a few photos of the install as shown below (click the photo for a larger version)
Getting Ready to lift the engine

The old pulley exposed and the engine bursting through the bonnet

Pulling the Pulley

New WMS Pulley Installed

The WMD HDI Intake

If you have the chance to attend a WMS Pulley Party, do it. Even if you don't have anything installed, it's defiantly worth your while. I am so glad I had the opportunity.

Hey pjschaffer,
I must have just missed you, Randy & Brian did the 15% & HDI on my 2006 SpaceBlue Checkmate @ 2:00pm on Saturday.
I totally agree with you! I was worried that the intake would be too loud, but it's not, it's just right! This one two punch is the consolation I needed to overcome selling my M3 :-)

Yeah, I had to leave a little after 11am when my wife called and wanted to know when I'd be home to take her and the kids out for the weekend. Otherwise I could have stayed all day just to listen to and watch Randy and Brian work. The intake and pulley combo is just so cool. Did you get the cooler IK22 plugs as well? Don't really know how much of a difference it makes but when I asked, Randy recommended them so why not.

Power really comes on between 4000-5000rpm.

Hi Phil, glad to hear your story, I'm looking forward to the (last) SF pulley party with a 15% & HDI on my auto, similiar to your setup. The milage just hit 2444, so we're really close in every aspect, I take it that you're telling my story too
At least I can safely bet the initial throttle hesitation will completely go away. Any worries on warranty? That's the next thing I need to check out among the local dealerships.
Love the WMS logo on the HDI cover, never saw it before.

Throttle hesitation is still there on occasion, but to a much much lesser degree. Big improvement. The warranty issue is a concern, but I chose to take my chances based on posts on NAM. Hope I chose wisely.
The WMS logo really completes the HDI box. I suggested to Randy that he make this standard. I expect though that leaving it off keeps the HDI box cost down.
All I can say is go for it, you won't regret it..

It was a pleasure as usual to see everyone in LA! I was saddened by it being the last event - you guys are great enthusiasts!
I am very happy that you guys are enjoying the work.
Have fun!
