Drivetrain Wisdom of raising the rev limiter??
Wisdom of raising the rev limiter??
1) I over red line my car from time to time and when the engine cuts .. I get a little annoyed.....I have thought of raising the rev limiter. The question is that on my dyno sheets the torque starts to die off up there so what is the answer...... is this worth doing or not?
2) the unichip does not have the ability to raise rev but MTH does so I am considering getting an MTH flash just to raise the rev limiter
3) is there a MTH on dyno tune format yet?

Of note, torque can and will fall off depending on your head work, but rpms are high enough that hp ["power"] continues to climb and hold.

I have somewwhere around a 7200 cut off with Giac and 15%. This is great - I use this regularly on the track and yes - there is better power up their. I will be moving to 18% soon and am aware that this will overev the SC. But I do not want to give up the higher redline. Any thoughts?

I am thinking about what the power is like at the extreme top...... I notice that I can shift at 7000 and the rev limiter does not hit but if I was to drive for 15-20-25-30 seconds at 7500 I would be concerned for the SC.....are you following this? 7250 with 19% is really living on the edge of getting out the check book but I think that is where I want to go because my duration will be only a second or two
who knows the cheapest way to accomplish this?

Next week when I change from 15% (Alta) to 18 % (M7 16% + M7 2% crank pulley) and add the new 380cc injectors from Helix I will go get my 15% Giac refreshed with the 18-19% Giac flash made for bigger injectors. I do not know if this will lower my redline from the 7200 the Giac 15% gave me (anyone know?). I do not mind killing the SC as long as it does not hurt the internals. Of course if the SC last then great. On Road Atlanta I probably do spend at least 20 seconds every lap over 7k.

there's one run, that took place in 4 continents, and it was about 100 grand to enter, it included things like air flights for all cars, registration for all countries, 5 star hotel etc... i would need alot of money to warrant wasting it on something like that..

SO when the cab drops you off at the house and your wife wants to what the hell happened and why was the car towed to the dealer - you can say "its not my fault, SpiderX made me do it!"

Spider X,
I went through the same problems as you with concerns with the MTH and Unichip!
What i have done is send my standard file off to a company in the UK called chip tuning info@chiptuninguk.com who i had raise it to 7600rpm
, then i got mth to raise the idle 150 rpm then loaded it up and got the whole thing set up on the dyno with the unichip!
I also have 1 standard file set at 7250 run for 98 ron fuel and 1 for 95 ron fuel, but i use the 7600rpm all the time!
It cost me £60 to get the rev raised via e-mail so that will be around $100 i guess.
I do wish i set it up to 7400rpm now as my power drops away at 7325rpm on the dyno and regardless to what people think 8125 imho is too much for our little mini unless you have serious mods to hold it together, the kind of mods that Jlm done to his motor....endyne was'nt it!
I think that the power may be dropping off due to to much heat from the 19% or because of valve float but how can i tell!
I must say though that the Unichip is very good indeed and am really glad i went down that route, it will be running a water inj system in the next couple months so its not just a chip and is very versitile.
Good luck!
