That sure is an interesting new peice from Alta

From their site:
This easy addition to your ALTA intake system adds style and performance. Using a precise compression fit, the ALTA air box top snaps onto the ALTA Performance intake system guaranteeing a cool air bath from the vent in front of the driver side windshield.

The perfect addition for the enthusiast looking the track race and cannot rely on a stock hood liner to seal his original ALTA air box. For the average enthusiast, look to the ALTA box top to dress up the under bonnet and show off a more aggressive look. The ALTA box top will easily attach to any existing ALTA Performance intake system. For those tuners looking for a cleaner "look", the ALTA box top will conceal your original filter while still using letting you use the bright red color to determine your filters cleaning time.

Come on Alta, finish the MCSa hose.

Its there on their site but if you order you won't get it.

Car....see my blog please.

The box top to me almost looks like a stab @the HDI....Or helps to legitamize that the closed boxed design is better.

The price is $79.99 for now. Now is the time to chime in about the color.
We will be offering the air box in SS and that top pictured there is SS to go with the newer boxes. But we could offer some black and siliver to match the other air boxes out there? Is this what i am getting from some people?

The colors are not a problem, in fact with all the black air boxes out there, i figured people would ask about that.

As far as sound no change. On the normal box the hood seal pretty well except for a very small corner (which is why we have the top) So the sound will still come from the cowl area.

THe price is a little up in the air, but expect to see a combo price with box, top, and silicone.

That would be true of the Webb HDI as well but that really isn't the point to this thread, is it?

Right as some of us find this part interesting since we currently have the Alta CAI.

ALTA2 I vote for the SS color as I have the newer intake.

black for me to match my box.

$79 for a cover?? Any performace gains?? If the hood seal is this good, why add a cover anyway?

I love my Alta intake! You guys make great products.

The hood seal definitely isn't as good as this could/should be.

So black, and SS is ok, but the SS will not match the silver box. So maybe 3 colors are needed??

Do to the hood, and the methods to make the air box shroud, there is a small corner that is exposed. Its not huge, but a hole none the less. With everyone wanting to get as cold of air as possible, the top is a way to seal that corner, add a different look, and hide the filter for those who don't like it. The performance won't be huger by any means, in fact, i don't see it being much at all. But this item isn't supposed to give you 10-12 WHP like the intake by itself does.

Between the top and the SS boxes coming out it is just a way to snaz up our tried and true intake.

Actualy i am surprise someone found this on our site. We haven't told anyone about this at all! But the LV crowd will see it in hand! Along with a couple other new parts!

3 colors, Paisley, Check & Houndstooth. Now that's a great under hood addition.

Alta, that's a nice adition for all the product users. I'm telling all that I know......

Dear Alta,

Yes, you'd have to offer it in black; how many black CAI's have you sold through the years, (including my own)?

My biggest issue is the cost. $79.99, are you really serious?

I'm sorry, but that's robbery! It had better be milled out of a chunk of billet aircraft aluminum for that price.

And this is coming from a motorist who has bought many, many of your products over the past 2 years!

Please consider a "friendlier" price!

I just noticed that this unit doesn't seem to be actually fastened down to the airbox by anything? How soon until it's released Alta?

I have the silver so I'd like to see it match, does it have any actual performce gain by sealing out any more air? if so #s please and I'm a student so that price is still too high for me to justify, lower the $$ and it might be an option. "friendlier" seems to be the key. also does it go over the rubber seal already on the box or do I need to remove it, and does it have any additional securing device or does it just snap on? how easy is it for removal to check filter cleanliness, I need to check it reguarly cause of the air I drive through.

My first go was 4 mil plastic and painters tape

I worked. I actually did it as part of the cowl pressure testing I had done years back.

Lexan might be cool too :D... lexan would be easy, just mill out a straight line for the part to sit on. Still 80 bucks for something that might cost like 20 bucks to make in the shop is pretty bad :/... If it was 40 bucks I would just buy it but cerial.... OUCH

A lot of the cost must be going to the fancy logo.We can't live without a logo now.
