I have the black Alta box, red hose... I'm cool with either color top... I don't mind the logo.. if I want it painted, I'll pull it off and paint it! No need for it to be separate. This is kind of low on my list of mods, as I really kind of dig on seeing my filter. That said, once my performance hit's the level I desire... bling will follow.

I'd prefer not to drill - I like the idea of a press on / pull off cover!

Drillslinger,
Do you have the ALTA intake? And the JCW bar?
Sorry, I probably could have explained myself better My MCS is currently 100% standard (under the bonnet) but I'm getting the JCW Strut bar. I have also been looking at intakes, but as I've mentioned before, I prefer the "OEM" look. From my research, that has pretty much meant Dinan or JCW ($$) I like what I've read about the Alta Intake, but the look just didn't sit right with me. But with the Box Top, I'm reconsidering. IMO, a black Alta with Top would give me the performance kick I'm looking for, without drawing too much attention to the intake itself.

Was that any better

Oh yeah, and I too prefer the idea of a press on cover as long as it seals well. It'll look cleaner IMO.

Thx

Ok, back on track, sorry we have been super busy the last week so forgive me for the slow reply.

So some are ok with drilling and some are not. The press fit does work just fine, but some were a little concerned about it not being bolted. But i think people will be happy with the solution we came up with.

Drillslinger,
Got it! So black box, and top. The black boxes if we decide to do that won't be offered for a while. But the black top will be. Might be a interesting combo with the black top and silver box!

Okay ALTA2, but where are you on availability of the various color tops and did you nail down the final pricing from what was quoted before? Finally, how about that initial group buy!!!???!!!???

When will the black top be avail?

My checkbook is a little heavy right now!

Has anyone or Alta confirmed fitment with a M7 Strut Bar????
I want to order the M7, but want to make sure it will fit with the new Alta Cover.

I installed an Alta intake on a MINI with a JCW tower strut bar and it DOES NOT fit. The owner sold his JCW bar and installed an M7 bar which does fit.

The M7 fits with the Alta cover or Not?

I'm assuming that you are talking about the Alta CAI without a cover?

I haven't seen the cover yet, but my guess is that it will fit. It's pretty tight so the bar may press on the box a little. Engine movement may be a problem, too. I won't know for sure until I install a top.

If the top is super thin then it will fit. Actually the box is a bit of a squeeze with the rubber on top with the M7 bar. I trimmed the rubber so the bar sat flat.

If someone buy's an alta now with hose will it come with the top or will that be separet? the intake and hose is 259.00 + another 80.00? 340.00 is high for 4-5hp. webbs hdi box is still cheaper at 285.00 and should yeld the same hp. If the alta comes with the top then I would buy one of those rather then wait for webbs hdi intake.

Thanks Steve I've since decided that, even though it IS cheap, the Strut Bar doesn't really ADD anything (But the Alta does ) so it looks like I'll have to pick one over the other.....

KC MCS,
The price is final at $50. We decided to just offer the cheaper price to everyone since they have to have our intake anyway. So the group buy is for everyone!

MINICS04,
Very soon! So since we were going to release these in SS, and now in the powder coated colors that has put a slight change to when they are shipping.

mdsbrain,
How much clearance is above the ECU cover the way it sits now?

Ripper,
Currently the intake with hose is $260, and with out hose is $200. If we add the top to the intakes we have a price of $310 and $250. But 4-5 HP is not what you get for $310. You get a well proven with many different dynos, and many different cars (dyno graphs to back them up) 12-15 Wheel HP.

If you are comparing the Webb, and the Alta with top, then our retail is a little more, but the street price makes them very very close in that regards. If we look at the filter, our filter has more surface area, a larger opening going to the intake tube, and has significantly more air around the filter to suck from. Our intake was the first intake to include the hose, and purposely remove the back plastic wall. To this day the HP gains are very well proven, and only one test out of many have shown another to make more power.

The future boxes may all just come with them, but this change won't happen for a little while. Since the top is separate, this allows customers that that like the look of the top, to purchase it, or for customers that are happy with the way it looks now, to not add the additional cost.

Does it fit? Well a couple of tops are going out to some people to test fit. and we will see!

SOME CUSTOMER INPUT NEEDED!!
One thing we would like to ask everyone is how important is the strut bar. We can make it fit with most strut bars. But will require the removal of the ECU cover(just the small plastic top). Now this sound scary, but it really isn't. Water doesn't get into this part of the ECU, and the OEM plug already has the rubber seals to prevent this. So the only thing that will look different is the plugs will be visable with the top off. Of course the cover will be covering it anyway.

If this is ok with people the box top will be slightly shorter and from the looks of the pics above, the strut bars should fit just fine.

There is probaly a few milimeters. It just clears.

Guys! M7 made this bar to fit most CAIs and in particular their own CAI which doesn't reside in the normal location.

Does anybody here have the ProMini strut bar with the Alta CAI/w cover? I have the bar on the car now and have a Alta CAI yet to be installed. I'd like to know how much moding if any would be needed to fit the cover with the strut bar.
Thanks....

Hi Jeff,

First off, congrats on getting this close with the top now. It sounds like the ducks are neary all in a row...

Did you or any Alta folks happen to follow the HAI data and interesting findings... thread in this forum?

It's a long read, but there are some very interesting findings related to thermal insulation, especially when we started experimenting on pages 3 and 4.

Anyway, if you have the time, it is enlightening, especially in light of the near-availability of your CAI tops...

Btw, any news on the CARB certification? Please don't forget, it is very close to the hearts of all of us Alta CAI users in California.

Thanks and best,

-- VBG

I believe the intercooler is more to blame than the Alta intake for the heat soak we get when we idle our engines or worse yet shut them off. There's quite a large area, many square inches of sheet metal, in that intercooler. When your car's not in motion, it becomes an interheater.

I've been monitoring my IAT with the Scanguage, and I get results similar to those posted in the HAI thread. It definitely makes me want to spray water on the IC.

BTW, any word on how soon the covers will be shipping?

Very true. I've been doing a lot of temp testing recently. IC inlet/outlet and inside and outside of the CAI box. The worst hot spot on the IC is the first couple inches that set over the intake.

I've insulated the intake tube from the box to the TB, the inside of the CAI box, installed header wrap, and improved the hood seal around my intercooler.

Under "ideal" conditions, and I VERY much stress ideal, I am averaging 72% thermal efficiency and my average outlet temp is 11º over ambient. Ambient for the majority of this has been averaging 80º.

The downside to this is that all this insulation adds mass. So once it is heat soaked it takes longer to cool.

Well, you know how things go. With some unforseen vendor supply problems, the tops WILL be shipping July 14th. This is a 100% gaurantee!!

CARB cert is in motion still, and still hoping for something around SEMA time.

Bump! (sorry for the old thread revival! I did not want to start a new thread because this one has plenty of good info)

I just ordered a box top cover from Alta.

Anyone tried it yet?

How do you like it?

I should receive mine in a couple of days and will update this thread then...

Just wanted to get people opinions!
