invidia or magnaflow?

i'm considering purchasing an exhaust system. and this is my dilema. i've looked up the exhaust reference thread, but i still want some opinions from you guys. i cut down to these 2 exhaust, and their prices are quite competitve.

considering sound, quality, price.. etc

maybe some idea of deals out there too? thx, guys.

I say wait a bit. See how Webb Motorsports comes out and make your decision then.
I'm not saying you will like their exhaust but that it will add one more to your decision making.

I've heard them both. On a dyno.
Even at full on they're both very nice sounding and the quality of both is very good.
I drive a magnaflow but I like the angle cut tips of the Invidia better.

Both drone some at the magic 3K rpm range. The magnaflow is a tiny bit louder.

Edit. The looks of the Invidia build quality are as good or better than the Magnaflow. I've heard a truckload of different exhausts over the years and IMO the 2 you've mentioned sound the best at WOT.
Probably the worst at WOT is the stock exhaust( which sounds like a massive air lose leak0 and most of the cheap aftermarket things which sound.....well.....cheap.

I don't have any droning...I guess you just gotta find a sweet spot a little above or below 3k on the interstate. I have a header also. If you plan on getting a header with the magnaflow, I would almost advise against the magnaflow, unless you like loud. Other than that, magnaflow is the way to go

I really love my Magna Flow trumpet tips and all. Even the mufflers look better under the car--nice and shiny. If loud is what you want--get it. If things like resonance bother you I would avoid. My prior cars (Vette, Z28 Camaro, 5.0 Mustang) all had straight pipes. LOUD!! Yes. Actually so loud, I couldn't hear any resonance. My MCS is almost quiet by comparison. Also, I strongly suggest an Alta CAI to increase your listening pleasure. My neighbors love the MINI--they hope I never go back to Muscle Cars.

i really love my Magnaflow exhaust, the way it sounds & the performance
i've had the Magnaflow on the kar since early 2003
the only problem was the resonator started to rattle on the inside (the baffles broke free) but Magnaflow replaced that for free (lifetime warrenty) and said, that was a problem with the earlier exhaust systems and it was cured

Which header?

The header thing is interesting. Header with larger primaries and/or tri-y configuration should tune resonance frequency to differing rpm(s) than OE. Wondering who here is running which header? Miltech/'Flow, OBX/'Flow or other combinations with the 'Flow

I've had a Magnaflow since early on. Its louder than some exhausts, but not by a whole bunch. The only real issue is drone - as others have mentioned 3K rpm. Some have welded the exhaust instead of clamping it & say this lessened drone. I've played around with the slip-joints - lengthening & shortening the tip location slightly. The difference in drone & percieved loudness wasn't subtle. Depending on your rear valence - Aero version or stock you'll find different location & sound. Beware, if not well secured (from side to side movement) the 'Flow tips will melt the bumper cover back there!

Irrespective of which system you get keep in mind that the system will expand when hot, and the tips stick out farther - you might be surprised how much.

Nice choices

Here's another one to think about and it's just an idea. Magnaflow is a very nice system. Fun to rip around town in, puts out a little more HP. But I think if you would take a long trip and wanted to play some tunes on the long drive the loadness would get a little old! The Invidia looks like it maybe made a little better. ( Looks sweet ) Maybe down on the HP by 2 or 3 if that?, it's not as loud.
So you may want to call Gary ( I think that was his name ) @ Stratmosphere they import and sell Milltek. Milltek makes maybe 1 or 2 HP less then the Mangaflow. Milltek is made as good if not better than both Magnaflow & Invidia. Milltek comes w/ a res. or you can get it with out the res. Get it both ways, so if you want to rip around and be loader you can. If you want that long drive and to play some tunes, you can. I dont think it should take more than 30 min. to change the front pipe just keep lots of Anti-Seize on the bolts, better yet go get some good SS nuts & bolts w/ Anti-seize and you shouldn't have any rust on the them.

Good luck!

What no one has mentioned here is the tubing size. The Invidia has 60mm tubing throughout and the Magnaflow is 63.5mm or 2.5 inches. With a forced induction engine I believe bigger is better so I would go with the Magnaflow if you are looking for max HP gains.

Where's the best place to get more information or buy an invidia? I can't seem to find much about the company.

He posts here under that user name. Capital J though. Johan.
Send him a PM and see if it's still available.

BTW he also has one on his car. I was there when he dynoed it. Sounded nice.
I can say he is asking a good price for a brand new system.

thx guys, very useful opinions, also very fast replies!

well, i think the hp figure is not a significant part to me, as long as the parts help enhance perfromance, i'm satisfy.
as for the droning, i guess most aftermarket will have alittle droning. i'm ready to deal with that, or just get some ear plugs or play my mp3 if i go on a long trip. i do like louder exhaust, but not fart can like. i want it deep and strong, and i really wish it can make the little burble sound on the 04 alittle more noticing..haha .

invidia to me is a very well built system IMO, but i just haven't heard it.
magnaflow to me is a very loud system, i've heard it, but you guys think it's acceptable with the loudness?

when is it coming out? i know he's bringing it to AMVIV, but it won't be anywhere close to production? and that system is weird looking, i don't get it..haha. is it for more performance side than my "all show no go" theory.

Sorry that was J as in Johan. Someone had posed his name as johan. Trying to clear that up I managed top make it worse.

Having heard both I wouldn't say there is really any difference in the 2 systems in the loudness factor. Tiny edge to the MF.
Unfortunately I haven't ridden in Johan's car at 3K so I really can't say which drones worse.

To me they're both acceptable. But I would say that I've driven an MF system for over 2 years.

Don't mean to start trouble but I think this statement is not very factual. Magnaflow has been making exhausts A LOT longer than a majority of aftermarket exhaust companies out there let alone Invidia. I can't remember how long but call either for the "been in business since" info yourself.

They make great quality systems as does Invidia. Not very often you hear of install headaches, poor welds or such with either of these two companies. I love the style and bling factor of the Invidia by far...but that a useless quality for an exhaust since it's sitting under the car.

My choice would be the Magnaflow. My reason as someone stated above with forced induction bigger is usually better (within reason) and as I plan to twin charge I find not only the piping is larger but also Invidia has those awkward bends at the end. For me it's the way to go as i do not want to go 3" custom.

If your planning on doing only mild mods to the car then the 2 or 3hp difference really while it does add up...is not much. People can fart harder than that!
