The other side of the pulley install

Lately, we've had a lot of threads about how great the pulley install is and I feel obliged to give a different side of the story.

On Friday, I drove down to Houston to get my pulley installed and dynoed. Note that I removed my HAI since I really wanted a baseline dyno for Morgan. Well, after I got it installed the car felt stronger, but not to the extent that I was expecting. The most noticeable effect is that the power has moved lower down in the rev range and it's easier to pass people, where before I would have to wait for the supercharger, now the power is just there. Oh, I also forgot that I drive significantly more aggressively now. Passing and accelerating just for the hell of it. The pulley has made me too naughty and I'm afraid if I do anymore, I'll lose my license. Okay, maybe that's not a contradictory story... Oh well, here's the dyno.

It was a Dynojet 248C. The guy said that there was significantly more power to be made above 5500 RPM since the ECU was retarding the crap out of the timing and he suggested that I look into an ECU mod next. I asked him about MTH and he said that he personally didn't like it. What do you guys think of Morgan's baseline? pulley dyno? what the car is doing? Any suggestions on what I should do next? suggestions on which ECU mod? Wait for FTR?

Anyways, I'm going outside to fit my HAI on now.

bump, I'm really curious as to what people think about the dyno numbers since the delta for the pulley at the higher RPMs since oddly low. At some points, I'm making 20hp over stock, but at peak, only 9hp.

those numbers are good based on a simple pulley add on. I would get the colder plugs which won't give you big gains, maybe 1-2hp if so, but will be healthier. A/F looks good, a little weird after 6K rpms, maybe it is what the dyno guy was referring to.

I reinstalled my HAI and the power is a bit silly now. The DSC will actually be on practically through most of 1st gear and some of 2nd gear. I don't understand how you twincharged guys do it.

most of the ECU mods make the traction control interference less.

Yea, I just turn off the DSC, but I'm still spinning the tires. I'm really hesitant of getting any of the ECU mods because I want to see what FTR puts out or I might even go Apexi although my shop said it would cost over $1k for the unit, installation, and tuning.

You could have been getting timing retard if the fan wasn't cooling the IC enough.

You're getting hammered on timing retard.

BUT your A/Fs look surprisingly good! Mine goes WAYYYY rich, even with MTH.

cooler plugs are a must for you. If you want some real fun, find some high octane gas and hammer it, as the retard will be repressed A LOT! Then you'll get the peak HP you're looking for.

I'm not talking about just slamming down on it, my car will spin 1st gear at 6k+ RPM. I just thought that was a bit weird.

I'll do that somewhere along the line. When are we supposed to change spark plugs? What's the fun of using higher octance and getting higher numbers if that's not what I drive it on normally?

A few things you can do to help with timing retardation caused by the knock sensor values being too high...

* Cooler charge air (better intercooler)
* higher octane gasoline
* colder range spark plugs (maybe even go 2 ranges colder than stock)

I know, what's up with those weirdos.

Maybe you got one of those MINIs without a personality.

One possible response: I think I'll call it "Overbearing biznatch" ...But then going back for maintnance would just suck, and no welcome pkg for sure

My imagination has me envisioning her bedroom full of stuffed animals - all with names. Yikes!
