NickS, there is lots of info on here, do a quick search. I put on the Helix Short Shifter kit. I have not had any problems with it and I like it. I wanted to keep the stock shift *** and shorten the throw. No complaints, easy install which took about 45mins or so...

 

Did a ProMini S kit 2 years ago. No problems since.

Short Shifters

 

I have the alta adjustable short shifter and its set to 2 postions which is about 37% reduc and i have a whalen shift **** and it simple rocks!!

 

i have the ALTA as well,
it is great you can adjusted to your liking .

 

I have Helix SS and love it!

It's cheap, easy to install, and works great.

 

what year is ur MINI?
do u have or plan on an aftermarket exhaust?
when u do a search look closely at the issues that sum exhaust have on ur SS kits!!

 

I have the B&M shifter and am not real happy with the system. The shift assy. comes with a box to cover the lower extended area of the shift lever. This box doesn't fit real well & rubbs the exhaust pipe real hard, causing a vibration. Also the extended shifter has the shift cable in a bind, so it is hard to get out of second & fourth gears. I thiink I will modify the box to fit higher if possible and route the shift cable through the lower box. Also B&M is wrong on the year split of the shifter design. {the shifter they sent was a year different in design than what my car had, yet marked on box for my car}.
Sorry I guessing this is a lot more information than you want, but I paid more for this system than others because of their name, but am dissapointed in the quality of the product.

 

The larger diamater aftermarket exhaust pipes do add the clearance problems, But I still put most of the blame on the design of the shifter itself.

 

that B&M is jus a name when it comes to tha MINI application!
i had one and got rid of it for tha Alta much nicer in design and feel
even if u tell em tha year of ur car it still may not be enough for them to send u the right part i looked at the ends on mine and they are different from the early to later years the ball ends are bigger on the later years!! sorry to ramble....peace out!!!

 

I have the Helix. No Problems after 1 1/2 years. Easy install. Great product and much shorter throw!

 

ive got an 06, and im actually getting my exhaust(dinan) put in tomorrow, i got it for free from my dad since he works at bmw

 

Does that mean we can all get hooked up with some Dinan parts? Just kidding. The SS extension kits are pretty much the same. Do you want an aftermarket shift ***? That is what I had to figure out first.

 

i dont noe wat diameter that resonator is in fact dont noe that it runs a resonator at all, so i may b not a lot of help here. if u run a B&M SS kit then a deeper box will be included w/ur swap if u run an ALTA no box plus u can adjust the height so if u run into problems the shift rod can be adjusted higher if need be!! have u any clue which u will go w/?

There's also the Promini SS on the market, which is part of my options to choose from.

 

The little add on extensions are much easier to install than a replacement arm. They also leave the **** at a stock height whereas the ProMINI and B&M drop the height about 3/4" or some such. It's been a while. I also used my Whalen which sets a bit higher so that is another variable.

I did the install myself. It's very simple and only takes about 45 minutes. The Helix comes with clear instructions on how to put it one. I hope that helps. There is a good write up somewhere on NAM w/ pictures. I'll try and find it and post a link for easy reference.

 

I have the B&M and did the install myself. I wouldn't call it easy. Had to put the car on stand and wait for the exhaust to cool, climb under and disassemble a little of the underbody. Compared to my husband's TSX it was a little more involved than just reaching into the middle console and replacing a part.
I enjoy it very much though. The throw is short (of course) and responsive.

 

well i have bad news and good news, as i wait at home for my car to come from my dads place, he give me a call and says that they can find where they put the exhaust at! so now i wait and see what happens, good news is that i get new gaudges, fuel injectors and a CAI for free! lol but still sad about the exhaust if it doesnt go on

Oh right, Thanks! Would you need to jack your car up on stands? I'm pretty much a DIY guy as far as my availbility of tools go. But i don't have stands

 

Rhino Ramps will work.
Or do like I did before I bought the ramps..
Drive one side up on a curb ( I rolled up my driveway to make it easy) then jack the car up and set it down on blocks under the tire. I used lengths of 4x4 screwed together and stacked.

 

For some reason, I'd feel more safe under that set up than jack stands and a jack.
