Front Mount Intercooler

I was wondering if there was a different way to make a front mount than that which Randy Webb uses and which Fireball Tim Racing uses. Well, I mean I know there is, a local mini shop here, Precision Autowerks, developed a front mount that doesn't use the same route. Which would be better in terms of performance. Would it matter. Also, could you use FTR's without getting rid of the hoodscoop (they replace it with lexan)...

the one that has carbon fiber that front mounts is not road worthy ... I've seen it come off the mounts, on track

Reason is, it is anchored still and the engine moves all around

That would be the Webb Motorsport front mount...

Here is the Webbmotorsports one:

It looks very nice but if it moves out of its bracket, it might not be the best solution then...

Thats the Dastek intercooler (same guys as Unichip)...maybe Webb imports it. Anyways I heard that thing is pretty LOUD. Even worse if your going twin charge. Also the core, while surface area is bigger the thickness is not which can cost efficiency.

Luis, the guy who is developing the kit and who owns Precision Autowerks, is a friend of mine. He is a great and talented guy, and he has installed all of the mods on my car. Anyways, he called to tell me that he was releasing this piece a while ago, and I'm simply thrilled about that, because it will be SWEET.

He had a custom front mount on his last MINI [which his wife kinda killed...heh], and he is going to be selling something very close to his original design [which was uber trick] very soon. The design works quite well and is much less invasive [and more streetable] than what is currently around. That's all I can really say. I'm sure he'll be putting it up sometime soon. Anyways, he's a great guy, and I can guarantee that this piece will be IT.

NO .... They are of a silver JCW, another guy named Phil, a psychiatrist, a good guy that entered the Phil Wicks Race at Laguna Seca in Dec 2005

I borrowed a car(MSFIT's) for that event, my car is RED

Yeah Luis is a great guy, I just recently (last month) got my 19% pulley installed by him. Talked with another mechanic about his front mount, was told they needed to recreate basically the entire thing except for the mounts taht go into the stock intercooler snoots because the rest of it was totalled...

I know Phil (the psychiatrist) with this FMIC and he is working on getting boots that are more like bellows to allow more flex when the engine moves and he also just installed one of those Japanese engine dampers to limit engine movement.

That FMIC has a unique sound - like a screaming cat

check out what has been said at MINI2. Seems like it is prohibitively expensive (building a FMIC for the MINI) although I haven't got a clue why.

Because of the amount of custom fabrication that needs to be done. Completely custom charge pipes, custom mount for the intercooler, figure a way to turn the oval shape of the stock snoots into a circular tube, it all adds up... Then you have to test it to make sure it was all worth while, if it wasn't, go back to the drawing boards, etc... Despite all of this, I hope to fab up a one-off for my car in the near future...

I have the solution for your buddies slide problem - I had a similar problem and these little brackets cured it for they don't allow the bellow to compress.

these little brackets where compliments of stanely hardware - home depot

There were a couple of reasons for that issue at Laguna Seca - we have been running the unit our our car with quite a bit more time on the track with no problems. It is loud though! We have given Phil solutions to the problem he ran into in NorCal.

Hope that helps!
Randy
