The $3.95 MCS CAI!

Well, i found the eBay MCS Intakes to be a fairly good bargin today.

I ordered it last week, shipped to me in 7 days, and it looks great. The lack of instructions makes it a bit hard to position, it looks like they use the tube on more than one car, its a simple 90 degree tube.

Nicely polished, the ends are all smooth, nothing jagged at all.

They ebvn include a nice bracket to relocate your BAT terminal to the firewall.

I had to cut my stock airbox in half to get this to fit, all that remains is the ECU holder, the rest was cut off.

Plenty of clearance now.

More pics tomorrow when my fake M7 Catch Can comes in!

If you drill big holes out of the back of the old airbox position, your air filter has access to the high pressure air at the base of the windscreen..

neat! looks like a bargain!!

you could also make a duct from the stock intake point at the front of the engine bay, to the area where the filter is...

I was thinking of making a 'lid' for my Alta CAI - a mate of mine here did a few small experiments and found that pressure around the filter builds up quicker when it's enclosed...

no...literally like a flat square lid that sits over the alta heat shield - one you can just clip off to take the filter out....the idea could be scrapped if I decide to get a strut brace...

either way..it's fun making stuff....

yeah..hahaah....

I'm not so sure the CAI seals properly on the underside of the bonnet...

I have to say - it's more a little fabricating fun, than me hoping to squeeze another 0.1hp out of my car...

While drilling out the back will give you access to the air from the air vents - it is NOT HIGH PRESSURE. It does however at low speeds allow the intake to draw air from theer instead of sucking it through the factory feed, thereby creating less of a straw effect.

I don't know what the tube is made out of but I would be sure to check the inside for rust. Eurosport had some CAIs out for VWs that would rust and reek havoc and MAF sensors.

Why not just remove the partition altogether? Thats what most of us with Alta CAI do and its allows for more noise Does it create more hp...I don't know.

anything that facilitates the inhale - will help. I will assume that most aid comes from the free'er fliter (like alta or ITG) but when you are not at speed getting air forced to your filter the engine has to suck itlike a straw. The whole in the back lightens that straw effect.

every little bit helps.

$3.95, eh? Let me guess, $22 shipping?

Is the end of the filter open or closed?

If that rear wall has a big hole in it or is removed, would water get onto the filter--like from rain/washing?

why

someone posted this a few threads up. I am a little confused. why would you remove the partion.. i am assuming, dangerous to assume, that you mean the metal box with the three walls that wrap around the cone and seal to the hood. If that is the partion you are talking about removing, that invalidates almost all the reasons of getting CAI, cold air intake. It is to ensure that the motor gets the cooler air from the little inlet outside of the windshield and in front of the driver. By openning the partitions yes it will take more air but it will be HOT hence useless for HP production. Kind a similar to the reason why the cars bog down on the track in summer months and people have water spraying systems installed. Cool air is good air for superchrgers.
