Drivetrain The $3.95 MCS CAI!
Thanks...we each have our reasons for upgrades! BTW, how is the sound with this guy?
For me, I don't think I want to chop the stock air box. I never seem to know when i want to return something back to the way it was for some reason or another. Thank you for pointing out that you had to do that in order to make it fit.

I bought it for the sound and the slight MPG increase.
its a very nice tight kit for the few dollars i payed for it, although i had to hack up some parts (stock airbox) to get it to fit in there properly and i had to make a new battery terminal hangar.

There's no real need to 'chop' anything, if you don't want to....
Buy the kit, and make up a shield from aluminium or something in your garage....you can work around the shape of the airbox's base....as for the rear portion of the airbox, that comes out without chopping too....
For $4 you can't go wrong (well..unless it damages something...
)...if it goes to custard, just give it as a gift to your closest ricer friend!

theres so issues with chopping up a stock box, they are laying around evrywhere and would be cheap to pick up if you ever needed to put it back to stock.

A bit like this - the base is still in there:

the ECU holder is molded to the lower part of the airbox.
to put my setup in, you needed to get rid of the bottom part of the airbox completely, but leave the ECU holder. so, cut them in half, problem solved. and mine cost a full $200 less!
I recently fooled around with the airbox, and in an attempt to keep it looking stock, but performing/sounding aftermarket, I used a cone filter i had on my old MC, and rigged it up inside the stock box, thus keeping it a CAI and using a better-flowing (i think) filter.
It sounded better with the box top off, now fully enclosed it sounds stock. I think I'm gonna cut out the back so the filter directly accesses the cowl vent.

i was going to insert a sleve into the stock inlet for the air filter so you could slip a filter over it. then cut out the top of the box. i might mess around with that sometime down the road, we'll see.
Cut out the top of the box, that sounds pretty interesting. I used a PVC elbow to connect the filter to the hole in the box top leading to the throttle body. It was a PITA! Still feels better than stock tho. I want to cut out the back of the box and the wall behind it, tomorrow if I get any time!:impatient
