well, the past feels pretty good, hows the future feel?
It feels tired.....I woke up with what I could only describe as the feeling of someone rubbing a cheese grater on my eyes...
It does feel very futuristic actually - just imagine how special the people in New Zealand are feeling!

Trying to bring this back on track....
Can you post some more detailed pics of the parts & the install, etc?
This looks like a decent option, just wanted to make sure that everything fits right, etc. Don't want to rig things....
thanks!

I question how good of an option this is for the following reason.
If the objective is to do a COLD air intake, this setup has no seperation from the engine bay so at idle or low speed this is drawing air from the engine bay acting as a HOT air intake. At speed it receives air from the stock fresh air feed but since the air cleaner is not seperated from the engine bay the fresh air is merely being mixed with the hot air. Additionally the pipe is metal just making it more prone to heat absorbption.
Hot Air Intake (the HAI refernced on this board) offsets the air temperature with a shorter travel path to the throttle body. Some board members have apparently obtained excellent results (i.e. gains) equaling or exceeding CAI.
I guess it would be a good question to define exactly what makes a cold air intake as opposed to Hot air intake. I am assuming that it means sourcing colder air and I just don't see that this does because it is not just taking air from a colder source but taking engine bay air. Grant it fresh air does come in from the standard feed yet it open to the engine bay giving the air intake a mixture of both at best. In my mind for this to be a cold air intake you need to isolate it from th eengine bay heat like so many of th eother CAI do.
food for thought

I supppse if your CAI isn't well sealed - ie. it mixes with the hot air in the engine bay, it isn't really doing it's job.....
So...to be most beneficial, you'd either need to insulate the filter from the heated engine bay air, or if you were not going to enclose the filter, it'd be more beneficial to mount the filter as close to the throttle body as possible to reduce the restriction generated by the duct between the filter and the TB...
ie. one or the other, for most benefit...

While something like the ALTA defiantly looks like someone took their time to do it and it does seem to have good numbers & sound, the cost is up there. I did have the chance to check out ALTA's stuff first hand at SEMA...very nice. As always, you gets what you pays for!
However, this whole eBay set up is cheaper than the ALTA silicone Hose!
Thank you for taking a leap with this intake & giving your feedback. Please keep us posted as you get some miles on it...

well, i dont care about any gains in horsepower, or any issues with it sucking warm air.
I bought it for the sound and the slight MPG increase.
its a very nice tight kit for the few dollars i payed for it, although i had to hack up some parts (stock airbox) to get it to fit in there properly and i had to make a new battery terminal hangar.
