pulley opinion, honestly

I was wanting to put the 15 percent pulley on the ol CooperS and wanted an down right honest opinion as to what people think is the best improvement or is there a better mod to do first see as I have a bone stock mini.

I do have a CIA and a set of magnecor wires and tune up parts sitting here ready to go.

SOOO is it World of difference or just a noticable difference pulley or not.

Do you know another MINI owner in Miami with a pulley? If you could drive their car then that would be the best way to feel the difference.

A pulley helps the car when first getting movie from a dead stop and in the lower rpm range. Give more low end tourque.

I would say that it is the most significant "easy" modification you can do.

Much more benefit than any exhaust/intake/ etc.

Most bang for buck by a mile. Second most is a Whalen shift machine (shift ****). Check out Randy Webb's comments under FAQ on his website. IMO go with the Alta 15% pulley

Agreed, my two MINI's have it with the Alta Intake, and I would NEVER recommend NOT doing these mods. Best bang, better driveability, and oh yeah, the sound is almost as good as the performance gains!

Pulley makes THE DIFFERENCE.

We all have our favorites, mine is the RDR 6 bolt pulley.

The 15% pulley should have been stock on the "S" IMHO.

I honestly can't see someone NOT recommending the 15% pulley immediately.

After 30,000+ miles on my 15% pulley, I still get the spine chills and finger tingles when it spools up.

It's the best bang for the buck going, and something MINI should do themselves on ALL MCS vehicles, not just the JCW (close to 15% anyways) cars.

Completely transforms the MCS from a pussycat to a tiger.

I have a Webbmotorsports 15% pulley sitting in the box waiting for the magical 1200 mile mark before I put mine on.

One downside of an aftermarket pulley: It can void your warranty.

Only if it is the direct cause of another component's failure. The onus of proof falls, then, on the dealer. The Magnusson-Moss Act sticky in the Pref Mods::Drivetrain forum is a must-read for any would-be modder.

Only if it was the cause of the problem, just like any other mod you do to the car... You're entire new car warranty is NOT at risk from getting a pulley installed.

One reason I initially went with the Mini Mania 15% pulley is that it's black and indistinguishable from stock without very close inspection. Just a thought.

I am considering this mod and not sure if I should go with 15% or 17%. But I also want to go with the light weight crank pulley as well. This being the stock size though. Does anyone in the NJ area willing to take me for a ride? Since I owned the car, I have not met anyone in the NJ area that owns another mini and is like one of us.

I know this will sound somewhat evangelistic, but today I got my car dyno'd, and all I can say is that the pulley is the secret to MCS performance--my 05 with lots of mods only bested an 04 with fewer mods (no exhaust, non ECU) by 2WHP, which was pretty depressing really.

Anyway, I put it down to the pulley being the big contributor in the equation, with the other mods playing pretty little parts.

But I could be wrong.

Without a doubt it is the biggest bang for the buck you can do to your Mini. Everything else after this will be more money with less of a noticable difference. There are several companies making 15% 17% and 19% and we enter the game with a 16 %. Pick your part and enjoy.

Ok, i am little worried here about a comment above. Someone said that tehy loved the sound and that was worth it? Does the pulley actually increase the sound of the already loud supercharger??? I know an intake does, but I don't think my wife would appreciate the supercharger being any louder than it already is!!

I had the same concern, but my wife never noticed the difference in sound. That's mostly because I choose not to enjoy full throttle and high revs when she's on board. I also think a CAI like the Alta is more likely to contribute to the additional in-cabin sound, than the pulley. Even that can be minimized by throttle position.

Having just installed both, I'd say that if you can only make one inexpensive mod on your MCS, a stiffer rear sway bar is more important. It improves handing all-around, including initial turn-in and reducing the 'push' tendency shile cornering.

Hehe, well, my wife tends to floor the car as much as I do. Maybe she'll appreciate the pickup and not notice the sound. I'm probably going to go with a 2% crank pulley and a 17% supercharger pulley. So far, that is what I thought about. I may just go 2% crank and 15% supercharger though, but I don't see anything bad about having it revving 19% faster unless I am tracking the car, which is not something that I will do. Autocross, yes, but i'll track the Inifiniti...
