Mini-Madness Superfour Challenge car - 245hp?

I'm more than a little confused.

I was just reading Car and Driver's piece on Mini-Madness' entry to the Superfour Challenge and it lists power at 245hp with only a 15% pulley, L-A IC, a ported head, and cams?

Do they have a dyno plot of that? I'm optimistic but I fear the numbers are too...

I read that too. They actually claimed 265HP, 225Torque. And... The car was 0-61 in 6.1 and 1/4 mile at 14.5 sec / 101mph. A 265 HP MINI should be mid to low 5's and 1/4 quite a bit faster. An 05/06 with an intake, pulley, and pipes is a 5.9/6.0 sec car to 60mph... They should have used an 05, as they probably could have taken 2nd place instead of 3rd.

I saw this car at MMW05 - it basically runs the Mini Madness stage 4 package. Take a look at it on their website to see the full modification list. C&D did not list everything apparently.

No link on the website. Here is the list of mods on the car: http://www.mini-madness.com/pdf_file...ct_one_lap.pdf. I was looking at it a few days ago because the car is parked near my house and I was wondering what makes it tick. Now I know.

Why is it that mini drivers, tuners, and vendors insist on using calculated BHP numbers when everyone else on the planet seems content with measured WHP number?

265 hp still seems too high to me with those mods.

Flywheel bhp for 101 mph

2600lb = 220bhp

2700lb = 228bhp

2800lb = 237bhp

2900lb = 245bhp

3000lb = 254bhp

3100lb = 262bhp

The Good old drag strip always speaks the truth:smile: they must weigh 3100lb

It does seem a tad high when the local twin charge car around here is only getting about 240 to the wheels these days. Maby the dyno operator was " family "

Haven't seen the magazine yet (hopefully it will be in my mailbox when I get home), but C/D has always listed claimed horsepower for all tuner cars; they don't dyno the cars. I assume this is because (a) they publish brake horsepower, not wheel horsepower, in their tests, and (b) the numbers don't matter - the performance on the track is what counts!

According to the Madness vendor announcement, they posted the fastest lap time in their class. What more do you need to know?

Personally, I'd like to see an all-MINI tuner shootout...let's see what these guys can do up against each other in a controlled environment.

A guy who is stationed in the UK bought them and shipped em to me. If you get ahold of a UK dealer you can get them.

Thanks! Do you have any idea how I would be able to get ahold of a UK dealer? By the way your car looks really nice , those euro bumper really make it look clean.

Gearing would have a lot to do with the performance too. An 05+ Mini would have been a lot faster with those mods and would have had the same HP

The polished and port matched head and manifolds will produce good hp gains, especially noticable at higher rpms. Have you seen what the inside of the stock stuff looks like, it would scare ya.

Still, the numbers do seem a little optimistic.

They did put together a nice balanced package.

Try searching the official Mini UK site and then either bang the phones or maybe their parts departement will have an email address?

I'd like to see a before and after dyno plot of just the P&P head and manifolds for sure...

Thanks again! Oh yeah and if you didn't see the madness car on spike TV yesterday you really missed out. I think it will be on again tonight at 11pm, trust me it's good watching!
