Nice to see that Alta CAI is the winner. GO ALTA..........
I think this is the best time for Alta to have a big sale on their CAI....

If you guys want to analyze this data fairly, you should dismiss the 4 extra runs done on the AGS. We have no idea how the others might have performed with another 4 runs. If you took only the first three runs of the AGS, you will see how the results differ significantly.

I'm surprised that no one's posted the numbers yet

We have the results order...and we already know how much the other intakes make, so that's all most people wanted to know We're talking a MAX of what - 7 or so HP for the Alta? The others are less...not like you'll feel much difference between 5 or 7 HP...it's all the price tag, look and sound from there.

Averaging only the first 3 runs of each, the $299 M7 and the $129 Pilo are tied.

I just think it's absolutely hillarious that I said MONTHS ago - the reason the results weren't posted way back then, was becaused the numbers SUCKED! Excuse after excuse, reason after reason...bottom line is you have to pull apart your car, spend twice as much money and in the end have LESS power than what was already out there! Common sense told me what this outcome would be.

Very true. The top three are within 5hp/torque depending on how you want to cut the math. The three of us agree that the AGS wins the sound factor unequivocally:smile:

i'll repeat the call: can someone post the information so that assumption won't prevail?

how did the before and after runs with the stock compare? Was there power loss noted? AGS was last before the stock again, right?

For $10 you'd have had (and still can get, given Sid's earlier post) instant gratification. For free, you get what you pay for - in this case a wait of perhaps (gasp) hours!
Thanks to those who did all the work! I tip my bonnet to you.

Shame the bim-com stuff wasn't in use. One of the interests I had was throttle response/iveness. Not sure how one would measure it, but improved response is almost as significant as more torque/HP IMO.

Any one of the various CAI tested in combination with a modded throttle body & software/chip should improve driving experience significantly

Be really interesting to see what an AGS tube with an Alta CAI could do. Do I hear a new dyno challenge? Alta & stock vs. Alta & AGS

Too bad we didn't know about this test, we'd have sent you an intake just to throw another in the mix.

Great info guys, thanks for the time and effort

I totally agree with you AGS is a $300 sound effect for your Mini
but it is not nice to gloat
would be interesting to hear what M7 have to say about this.
bet they were dredding this moment.

I am a bit discouraged. I have an Alta but was hoping for more from the AGS....hopefully this will foster some more r&d to get their design tweeked. I am proud that the Mini community came together to do our own testing...(thanks to all who did the hard work) this is a clear message to all vendors that we are a dedicated lot. Peter @ M7....he has been very good to me and I am very happy with the products I have bought from him and his level of service. I will look for his response.....not so much in words but actions to get this product to the top.

I am a bit surprised about all the hoopla about sound.......to me ...there are no "style points" just useable, controllable, modulateable power.

In all fairness, I am a little bummed today on a personal level so maybe that is showing through.

Bob

I wonder how the AGS would do with an HKS-style filter (if one could be sized to fit in there)? It seems that would be a good use of the available space.

I don't expect something for nothing. But, I also know that if everyone who sees the data is paying, there'd be a huge profit margin. For the record, I am not shopping for an intake anytime soon. There are better things consuming my money right now . I do, though, wish for some reprieve after watching this for months.

Eye candy good ! But really...having installed it myself, I know that the AGS is tall to maximize the height it reaches in the engine compartment. That brings it near the opening of the air path. This may not have such excursion?

What kind of surface area would we be looking at? Got any numbers on that Andy? ...Would it be similar to your HAI or 'effectively' larger than the current offering? ...Or, are we mostly looking at improved flow via foam?

Andy i think you might have a point here, you might be on to something . Ide like to try it but the fact of the vacum line that goes in the top of the AGS filter. What would you do with that?

Wouldn't that add about 100 bux to an already expensive intake?

Don't worry it will come out. For those of you who think these guys are trying to profit off this data it may serve you to read back a page or two. They are waiting for one of us who helped pay for the project to post the numbers. They gave us the option of posting when we are ready. When one of us feels enough time has passed, then we'll post the real data ... The sadist in me wants to make everyone wait a bit longer.

I like the science behind the test, but I'm not totally satisfied with the immediate claims of results. I dont' support any of these intakes directly, I got the BMP because it was cheap and shiny. But everyone here knows that mods do not stack linearly. On this car, the Alta won. Redo the test with a 15% pulley. I'm not saying the results will differ, but we should get it done again with different mods, say after a pulley install. Just a thought...

That won't change the ratio between them, only the absolute numbers.
