Shift Linkage Broken?

I was on my way home from work today, 1 to 2 shift at like 5k or so and the car just revs in the same gear. The shifter can be moved around almost anywhere I want and I only get 1st gear no matter where I move it, not even neutral. I never heard it go, I had my music up rather loud Nothing dripping from the car, no gears on the street or anything. I was able to limp it home at 30mph in first at like 4k without any weird sounds at all.

After reading around here it seems that my shift linkage is broken, does this sound right to you guys? All of the recall related linkage problems sound exactly like what happened to me, only they were really early Non-S builds

That sounds like hat happened... Was the shifter easy to move, or was it still stiff?

Youre lucky it happened in 1st... Imagine if it had been in reverse

Reverse... now that would have been an interesting drive home

The shifter is easy to move, though it won't move out of the 1/2/3/4 area, it's like it's stuck in that area. I had 3 right after it happened, but after moving the shifter it became stuck in 1st and proceded to flop around.

Warranty? Possibly, 24k miles - delivered in Oct 2002. Anyone have a diagram of how to 'fix' the shift linkage?
