Are you planning on doing the install? Borla is a bit of a jig-saw puzzle to assemble....

I've been driving a couple Maganflows for a year and a half or so and I've listeded to and ridden in a couple of Borlas. No race ones though.
I'd say the note or tone if you will is very similar. The Magnaflow gets a bit brattier at higher RPMs where the Borla is a bit more mellow.
There's also that matter of the difference of the tips. That may influence your decision as well.

For what it's worth... a friend has the Borla... and I love the sound. If I didn't already have a modified JCW exhaust, I would be going Borla.

Borla! The Magnaflow is deafening! Have you considered the Miltek? It's awesome!

I have the OEM exhaust.....I like its stealthy note....

So installation is not an issue. Next up would be tip appearance and sound (inside & out). To date, I have known two people to switch from Magnaflow to Milltek and Borla Street (quieter one). This is not to say that there are MANY people who love the Magnaflow, just presenting my personal observations. Do your research on the Magnaflow sound, find someone near you with it and check it out, it is a bit loud (inside) and not everyone's "cup of tea."
I put the Milltek on as well, could not be happier without sounding like a sales pitch! Out of your two selections, power gains are a minimal difference! Of course, assuming the Borla Sport...

Do a search on this forum. I remember a thread with a video of all (or most) of after-market exhausts. That way you can hear and see what they look like, and go from there.
I have the Borla street and am happy with it, it's not to loud but sounds very nice.

check out

myminiparts.com just developed their own exhaust system. I saw the prototype - minimal tubing, clean simple bends, great sound. Reasonable price!! Hopefully they will have dyno numbers shortly but those who drove the car loved it.

low cost alternative

I really like the Megan system. It is noticeably louder than stock, but not obnoxious. Kinda bassy with a great gurgle & pop. Sounds crazy good at WOT! I got mine (in a plain brown box) for just over $400 delivered off of ebay.
Best - Bodinski

I have a parted Magnaflow, and I love it! I am not sure about the exhaust that comes all together, but mine is very quiet wile just cruzing. However, once you step on it, people will know your there! If you want more info you can PM me about the specifics.
