M7 Oil Catch Can Install Question

I just got the M7 Oil Catch Can this week and first glimps of the product looks impressive. As Iwas going through the box I noticed that NO written instructions were included, but instead, 2 seperate sheets of paper with a picture diagram of how it's supposed to be after its installed . I have recently installed an Alta kit on a friends so I'm familiar with how Alta had theirs installed. I'm assuming(hate using that term)that it installs the same way but I'm not sure where to install the can itself. Can someone kindly fill in the blank on where it goes and how to mount it CORRECTLY.

M7 -

Is it normal that this ships without written (i.e., step-by-step) instructions? ...or did it just get packed for shipping incorrectly?

Called

Talked to Randy on the phone and nailed down a good spot for the can. Now it's time to get busy!

They ship the can with a diagram only, no written intructions. But it is not a complicated piece of equipment so you are left up to your own devices on where to install it.

As tennis Man noted we ship the OCC with a multi color diagram. With over 5 different monting locations that I can think of off the top of my head prividing written instruction for all of them would have been more confusing than helpfull. If anyone has questions our tec line is open 7 days a week.

Some Photos May Help

This may make it easy.

Here is an overview of the system as it is installed in my 2004:

You can see the connections at the T-piece. Also note the two holes that go through the shield with grommets on the far left:

Here is the mounting position:

…Although it can also be mounted on the lug on the shield here:

Rick...... Thank you for the detailed description for the mounting of the M7 oil- catch can

As I was sitting on the flight from Hawaii to LA. I suddenly had an urge to write
an amazing install manual for the OCC. this will have images
and suggestions galore for placements of the can and more......

Expect to see it on our website in the very near future. Mean while, call us on
our techline for a personal touch to your problems

That spot is unusable if you have a factory alarm! (As the siren housing goes there)

Which is why I pointed out an alternate spot in the last photo.

Rick -

With the OCC behind the shield, how difficult is it to get it out and empty it? Does the OCC have a sight-glass or some other device that shows you the level of it's contents? Can't tell from your images.

BTW, Thanks for posting them!! I'm interested in putting one of these in, but I'm not exactly the world's greatest mechanic... guess I drive 'em - and don't usually wrench 'em.

???

Does anybody know what the protrusion point is used for? Where exactly does the alarm siren mount at? I'm contemplating removing the protrusion point and mounting the new can there. Any issues with this? BTW, I have a Jan 05 build date so the motor mounts are different, so is the way you can mount the catch can. The pictures above show you can mount the can with the supplied bracket at the top of it. Mine has two areas on the side of the can only.

If you use that position you will block the space to get to the oil filter...eh?

I've got the Alta, but I did use the (outside) mount method on that shield. Dirlled one hole, nut/bolt using the supplied but bent bracket. It does block access to the oil filter, but it's easy enough to remove (and see the level). Besides, I'd probably be removing anyhow to empty it during an oil change.

Props go to RandyWebb for the trick heat wrap.

It's fairly easy to get to - just remove the nut on top of the bracket (I'll probably switch to a wing nut in the future.) You can see the sight glass in this photo, just to the right of the can.

Bottom Line!

After great debate, here is where I mounted my M7 OCC yesterday. I dremeled off the post protruding off the back shield and mounted the OCC as high as I could for possible heat damage and easy oil change purposes. Not included in the kit was the hardware to mount the mounting bracket to the car. I did rotate the top lid to accommidate the direction of the tubing but that was the only chage I made from what was delivered.

After disbelieving that Todd and I knew which way up the intercooler goes, of course. We put it back on, and Mark insisted it was upside down and made us remove and flip it. It wouldn't re-install, so I showed him how it looks on my car (the way we originally had it) and put back on for the 3rd time.
If you don't want my help, I won't help any more.

Why don't we use a Greddy catch can if they are all the same?
