200+whp modifications

OK, I know the first thing that will be replied is to "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON" but I'm just not finding all the information I want that way. Hidden inside threads on something vauge people will post their dyno results and I can never seem to find them again. I was wondering if someone knows of what cars have been in the 200+whp range without nitrous or turbo/twinscrew and what those modifications are. I know there are many vendors that offers kits to accomplish this, but I have found that talking to 5 different vendors gives you five different systems that are hands down the best and the other guys are just blowing smoke. So rather than crack my scull against the wall trying to figure it out... I just want to follow blindly in the footsteps of those who have done it on their own and aren't necessarilly bias to one vendor's products or another. Obviously everyone will have a vendor or two they like dealing with, but I want something outside of a build up with all parts from one company. I can look at the vendors website for those results.

So please, help a guy out who is ready to start moving for the next horrizon. My goal is to have a 200+ whp Mini using good owner cars for a blueprint.

Not sure if it helps, but did you look here on the Webb Motorsports page? Randy has a bunch of performance upgrade "stages" that he rates by approximate horsepower, and he mixes and matches various parts from a variety of manufacturers. I'd bet he's dynoed them as well.

I had not seen that, good information there.

That also makes me want to point out that I don't have issues with any of the vendors I've talked with, and I honestly believe that THEY believe they are steering me right and telling me nothing untrue. But there seems to be many different ways to skin that cat and I would like to see how others have gotten there. Just to help make my decisions clearer. The big items would be:

Head - Webb/Pilo/Madness/Cosworth...
Header - Milteck/Madness/OBX...
Intercooler - Alta/GRS/Madness/FMD...
Port/Polish - What, how much, where...
At least for the moment the only cam is Schrick, so I don't have to think too hard on that! Once again, I've never really had a bad vendor experience. They have all taken plenty of time to talk to me and help me, but converstaions leave me more confused than clarified. Just want to see how the average consumer is getting the results I'm after. I know a few have seen 230whp and that's outstanding! Love to see what got them there. If I am going to obsess on something, I want to find a direction and start moving towards it. If I just -have- to make a modification and only have a few hundred to spend I want to make sure I spend it on injectors/intake/pulley items I know won't be a waste of my money, but another step towards my end goal.

Thanks for allowing me to drag what I'm sure is a worn bone out and knaw on it a bit.

this will do it:

headwork: primarily larger exhaust valves and porting $1,500 +install
Cat-back exhaust; $600;
15% or 19% pulley: $400, installed;
Apexi fuel management computer, installed and tuned: $600.

that should give you close to 200 at the wheels and a great A/F ratio.

my rig also has a few more tweaks, like 440 injectors, header and full flow cat, and dynoed 212 at the wheels.

Sounds like I just need a head (might as well stick in the cam) and the Apexi part. I read up on that a bit last night, is that something that a person can tune themselves or does it need to be taken too someone knowledgeable? Can it be done on the street, or does it require a dyno?

I had th eapexi installed today and all I can say is DAMN ! It isnt that it actually "makes" hp but it lets you tune out the bugs, flatspots etc. I can say that my car runs noticably better than ever. I thought it ran pretty decent with a few little quirks after the cam/head install but still pretty good, but after the apexi it a completly different beast !

Actually I should say it allows your car to make power through tuning.

More on this in another thread in a little while.

Gollygwagen, I will send you the list you requested later today.

Jm6001 & Sebaflex, the latest one is the Apexi AFC Select. This is what I have and detlman just had installed.

As jlm’s rig, mine has had just a few more tweaks. My last dyno sheet is posted, click signature link.
