Drivetrain Official ALTA Q&A thread!
scolburn79: I will look around and get back to you ;-) THANK YOU for your continued patronage. We really do appreciate it!
robino: Thanks for asking! The shifter is 12mm x 1.25. Hope that helps. I answered your question about the tips in your other thread, but happy to help here as well. There may be some rinse on the outside of the tip that will bubble off and leave a brown residue. We have noted the issue and are scrubbing the tips again before packing. Also, if the chrome is truly bubbling (this would be weird and not something we have seen before) we need to check into the cause. I know you are running catless and that would significantly increase the temperature at the tips. In theory that should not be a problem, but regardless we need to find out the root cause. Please call me or Jeff directly at the number below. Thanks again for your continued patronage!
Thanks again everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

not running catless, the factory cat is welded to the OBX header (to a flex pipe)
yes, there WAS bubbling, now flaked off and small brown spots showing in those areas where the chrome chipped off, not enough to make me hate it yet...but if it continues it WILL look like total dog poo.
you guys should have used a polished tip of some sort instead of messing around with chromed tips. Tripple chroming the tips would resist any amount of heat if done right...i've owned a few Harleys to know that good chrome will resist heat.
thanks for the **** thread measurement

robino: No problem! Thanks for the follow up. Glad to have the information. The tips do go through a multi step process (I beleive it to be triple plated.) so if they are flaking, we want to fix that for you. PLEASE call me or Jeff here so we can address this for you. We want to help. Please allow us to do so. Thanks again for your business.
Not to be rude, but are you sure your air diverter would work with the GP intercooler? It looks like your diverter would cover the two additional bars on the GP intercooler. Is there trimming involved or am I missing somethng? Thanks
a610 and ultimately Frodo: You are not missing anything and I should have been more specific in my earlier reply. It could fit. But we don't recommend it without modification, as it will cover at least 2 rows of the core. However, it would technically fit. MY sincerest apologies if that previous comment was misleading. It was truly not intended to be. If enough GP owners were interested, we would be happy to produce a GP specific diverter as a group buy or similar. So if anyone is interested PLEASE let me know. Otherwise you could modify the current ALTA model, then have it re-powdercoated.
Hope that helps. Thanks everyone!

I need the metal sleeve that goes inside the oil catch can to keep it from sucking in like a lung when the motor is running. I talked to Jeff over the phone about 2-3 weeks ago and he assured me that he would send one out asap.
I have still not recieved it. Let me know what I must do to get this part.
Also, have you ever heard of MINI owners running into trouble with thier OCC because .... The tubes that go straight up out of the top of the can bend too hard pressing against the inner top of the bonnet and getting kinked; cutting of the air feed and return??? This is what I am noticing with mine. I have mounted the can in 2 different locations and it is still a concern. The only way that I can tell when I pop my hood is if the can is succking like a lung they are not kinked. If the motor is still running and I peak in to the back of the engine bay and the can is not sucked in, I can assume one of the hoses is kinked.... which is almost always is. I think this could of attributed to my recent valve cover explosion (you may have seen the post). There has to be a fix for this.... I am thinking that if you switch out the input/output plastic fittings on the top of the can with similar ones but are 90 degree bent it would remedy this problem. It would keep the hoses lower in the engine bay and out of the way of the things we dont see when the bonnet is closed. such as... the headlight assemblies, and inner bonnet liner with its form fitting areas that push into the compartment. I have tested the current fittings, hose lengths and can placment alot with trying to determine what caused my valve cover grenade incident.. and I think this could of been a major part of it...
Anyhoo, just info that you might be able to do something with...
If you have any 90 degree fittings I could really use those to, but I will probably just try to find them at my local auto parts store.
I really do need that sleeve for the inside of the can though.
email me for shipping info.
Thanks for your support and keep making killer parts!

I just wanted to drop a note and let you guys know that I recieved the OCC inside sleeve part today that I requested today.
Thanks very much!!!!
It was funny... The doorbell rang and I walked down to see who was there. I see the UPS guy walking back to his truck. I look down and see a small ALTA box and was super happy. I am thinking to myself "sweet the guys came through". Right as I shut the front door and walk back into my office I realize I have a voice mail waiting on my cell phone... I check the message and its Ryan from ALTA saying that the part is shipped and I should be seeing it anytime!
What timing! Thanks again and I look forward to draining more of my savings on cool stuff that I have to hide from my wife from you guys...
Jasun
love your direct flow intercooler, nice and easy install, looks great, question though: What are those two little steel L brackets for? The ones that say Alta on them? In your instructions it says to use them on the 'outer' IC clamp nipples as per the picture, but there's no picture that shows where they go or how they're angled...
whichever way i tried to use them, they make no sense as to why they should be used. Can you direct me to a link showing how and where these are used?
Thanks.

I've also trimmed the stock scoop, my other question is, when are you coming out with a scoop of your own that would exaggerate this opening even more...?

newbs49 & Frodo: Thanks for the idea. I have Jeff working on it right now. I will get back to you GP owners shortly!
Thanks again!

motonikki812: GLad we FINALLY came through for you. Keep us posted! Talk to you soon!
scolburn79: Still looking!
robino: Let me see if I can get some photos for you posted up here. I am kind of internet illiterate. Check back in a few. Thanks again!

See if this makes sense:

You see where the trim wraps over the IC and down the side. The small 90 degree bracket bolts to the outer most posts, and gives something for the trim to grab.
Since you have already cut your trim, you will need to get a new piece. But have no fear, we have lots of this! Just email us your address, and we will send some off to you!
Hope that helps!
Nice Intake!

For the GP guys and gals, it would be a easy way to add the water sprayer and increase the airflow. Just my 2 cents.I have time to wait...but if I see a good deal on your direct flow IC I may have to jump on it
Thanks againFrodo
Frodo: Thanks for the heads up! As always we are constantly reviewing new product ideas. If and when the item comes to fruition feel free to call me directly!
news49: I 100% agree. Stay tuned!
Thanks again everyone.

Also, just wanted to say thanks to the PDXMINI.org club for a wonderful event on Saturday and Sunday. We had a great time and look forward to the next opportunity to help out on "Mod-Day"!
Also, if any other clubs around the country would like ALTA to help out either in person or with other forms of support PLEASE let me know. We have another event scheduled with the Puget Sound MINI Club soon, but would be more than happy to help others too. Hit us up!

Hey Adam. If you need a test mule for GP stuff...you know where I am!!
jaridp: Thanks for the offer! I had nearly forgotten about your car. I will call you today and make arrangements to get some accurate dims off the core. Then I can have the proto for you to try out as well. We always enjoy working with you and appreciate the help in the past as well. Chat soon!
You know, for some reason I keep adding more and more Alta products on my car. Don't get me wrong there are some great stuff by other venders and I wish I had the $$ to add some of them on my car. It happens that the planets line up with Alta when I have money to buy something. My car is not all Alta but close...

This has been done by other companies..How bout some more unique stuff!

I've suggested a few things for the GP, but I'm on the other coast. How's that replacement airfilter coming for the JCW/GP air box.
