Crank Pulley Install.......

Out of curiosity, how are you guys getting your stock crank pullies off?? I have heard there is a special tool you can buy from MINI, but is this the only way? If so, anyone in the bay area have one I can borrow or rent from you?

The tool from Mini is pretty cheap, and is needed to remove the stock pulley. I'd say pick one up, and then you will have it.

As for the tensioner... do I need to jack up the engine to get the belt off??? Only time ive taken off that belt was when I did the supercharger pulley....

I thought I had read somewhere on the forum that all you had to do is heat up the pulley's shaft and it comes right off (similar to what Webb Motorsports did to the OLD style version of the supercharger pulley).......

Changed my belt this weekend. Pretty easy by talking off passenger wheel and the inner plastic wheel well. Sure is much easier than jacking the engine. 20 minutes tops.

OMG DON'T DO THAT! You'll burn all the grease/oil out of the sealed SC bearings. Guaranteed to cause your SC to fail. DON'T BEAT on the pulley with a hammer either... same result... you'll hurt the sealed bearings. The only method for removing is with a puller.

Alright, so if I had the MINI tensioner tool, I would NOT need to jack the car up to remove the belt correct???? Do I NEED the install tool or is it pretty simple to get the new pulley on there??

You do not need to raise the motor to remove/change the serpentine belt. Use the MINI tensioner tool to release tension (hold w/ a nail or pin) on the belt. Raise your passenger side to remove the passenger front wheel. Remove the passenger fender well liner (several metal and plastic philips head screws) and you will gain access to the crankshaft pulley as well as having a "window" to change the belt.

I think its gonna cost less for me to have it installed than to buy the 2 tools required... not to mention save me a headache and an hour of work. Gonna have my 17% slipped on to replace the 15% at the same time

so, lets hear some feedback on what you think about the lightened pulleys now that you have them installed ( assuming they were installed,.

I am curious since I have one sitting on my desk right now.

Absolutly better throtle responce and quicker acceleration. I was surprised how much it improved my performance. That was the stock size. Just ordered my 3% and will post results in a week or so after I get the car re-tuned.

sounds good, I have a few things to do and a bunch of tuning. Once I get theis last pit of stuff in and get it tuned I am pretty much done for a while. Last time I pulled 209, I am curious t see what the new stuff will do. I am adding injectors, 3% pulley and alta intercooler. ( all in stages )
