ALTA, I removed my stock header a month or so ago and noticed a crusty build up on each of the header tube openings. I broke some off and rubbed it between my fingers and it was like fine grit. I suspected it got thru my foam filter and thru the K&N back on for piece of mind.
What would you suspect that stuff was? I had mine on there since the first AMVIV, prob. 9 months, 30,000 miles.

sfjames2,

This crusty stuff is pretty normal. It is a combination of oil (part of normal blow by, and the reason why all engines cosume oil in some amount), and deposits from gasoline. Generally this happens after a few thousand miles. I would guess with a few thousand miles and no Catch Can would cause this. I would guess if you analyzed the material, you would find carbon, and other deposits that may be found in gasoline.

minimonkey,
No problem, there is tons of info to be shared in this community, and nothing to hide about our products, so we don't mind telling everyone the real deal.

Add me to the list for an Alta for an '05 MCC.
BTW - does the filter/intake difference apply to just the manual tranny because of the change to the GETRAG? Ours is a MCC w/CVT.
