This is for cooper 44, who felt left out in the Cooper Filters available thread.

I have driven and installed the Piprcross S intake, the MINI-Madness intake and the BMP. Here are my thoughts:

Pipercross: Looks really cool, lowest restriction type air filter. Not as much supercharger noise as the others, smaller filter element than the others, floppy install (the filter is only held in place by the hole in the heat shield and the intake hose), modest increase in power according to dyno testing from Pipercross that showed up to 10hp (take that with a grain of salt until verified).
Cost $215

BMP: The loudest of the bunch (but not too loud at all). Lower profile than other styles, cool looking heat shield, smallest increase in horsepower according to independent dyno testing in Oregon that showed consistent 2-4 hp (but the noise may trick you into "feeling" something more). Very nice install. This intake also allows the use of the BMP strut brace which is very nice.
Cost $170

MINI-Madness: In my opinion, the nicest intake on the market. Largest filter size by far of the bunch, very finished install with good detail work, moderate sound increase, largest horsepower gain of 7-9 consistently verified by independent testing in Oregon, cool looking.

I have access to all three of these, so my opinion isn't biased (something I intend to continue to offer to MCO).

MINI-Madness

Pipercross

BMP

Hope this helps!

As usual, thanks go to Randy for the independent opinions and comparisons of Pipercross, BMP, and Rogue.

And Randy, I'll raise the reward for all your good works to one better-- make it out here to CA and not only will I buy you lunch at the local sport-bike hangout up in the mountains (Angeles Crest Highway, name one of the best driving roads by a number of mags - see http://www.mulhollandraceway.org/roads/crest.html ), but my wife & I will throw in a 6-pack of one of our favorite beers-- at $25 for sixer of Samiclaus, it's not cheap... but then at 15% alcohol you don't want to drink 6 beers

Thanks Tom! Maybe you will be able to make it out to one of the MINI venues we are starting to organize for this summer! The 6-pack will have to do.

Just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for mods for your Mini, look no further than our good MCO buddy RandyBMC at Mini-MotorSport. Just got off the phone with him and purchased my Mini Madness Intake and just want to give a big "THUMBS UP" to the quality of service I have recieved thus far. I wasn't sure at first which Intake to go with and he was able to give me sound, objective advice on the options available.

I have been watching the posts on this board for several months now and of all the vendors that pop in to drop ads, Randy was the guy that really showed he not only knows his stuff, he really has a commitment to the mini. I love his "How To"s and comparisons of the various after-market products.

THANKS RANDY!!!!!!

I paid $239.00 which is better than I have seen on other sites... but I didn't spend much time looking around. He will match any advertised price though. It is definately worth giving Randy a call or shooting him an email.

Cheers,
Chris

Does anyone have a picture of how the hood scoop air is forced into the box containing the element? Or a description of how this is done?

I'm sure others are more qualified to answer this than I am, but the hood scoop is not for air intake, it is to cool the intercooler. The air intake comes from under the car, where the air is cooler. I'll bet someone has pictures they can post..... anyone..... anyone.... Bueler?

the scoop is for the intercoler air only, which then is directed over the engine.

The grill area has a small intake horn in the upper right which collects combustion air and sends it to the bottom of the air filter box where it is joined with whatever might come in from the 3/4" grommet leading to the windscreen vent area.

Randy do you have any experience w/ the R-Speed intake?....they claim a consistent 13 HP gain from dyno. Just wondering yourthoughts vs. Mini-Madness instake.

Thanks!

1st, welcome to MCO!

I deleted the photo out of the member MINI Gallery, please refain from posting pictures that are other than your MINI to that gallery. There are plenty of free services that do image hosting (Imagestation.com for one).

In any case, here is the image
