Drivetrain Track Break-in JCW?
Track Break-in JCW?
I have the JCW Kit on order. It should arrive in less than 2 weeks. However, I will have a track day coming up early next month, I wonder if it would be a good or bad idea running in the MCS JCW on the track? I came across a post about the JCW kit will need some seating time for the cam on the new head?? Please advise.
Thanks
Thanks
Bad idea, IMHO... I would make sure it's got around 750-1000 miles before I would take it to the track...
I'm not a fan of the MINI break-in requirements, so I did a little of break-in from both schools of thought (one says follow the break-in requirements exactly, the other says to drive it like you are gonna drive it) - took it easy most of the time, but got on it progressively harder until 1250 miles. Changed the oil at that point and let 'er rip. I just don't see how the everything can properly seat without driving it a bit harder from time-to-time.
But WOT on a track for 20-25 minute sessions before break-in is complete? I wouldn't recommend that...

The certificate that came with our JCW Tuning Kit said "The vehicle should be run-in over a distance of 2000Km (1250 mi) at varying speeds and revs, max. 4500rpm."
Luckily we had the kit installed prior to taking delivery of the car so we didn't have to do the break-in miles twice! We still got through them in just under two weeks though
