2005 S Muffler

Some of the reviews that I've read make it sound like the 2005 muffler is definitely different from the earlier mufflers. Does anyone know if they make more horesepower and/or weigh less? If they do make more horsepower will aftermaket mufflers show the same increases as on the earlier cars or should one expect to subtract the extra from the 2005 to arrive at the extra horses. I don't like to make changes unless I'm increasing performance by more power or less weight, or both (unless it's a comfort issue). Sounds and looks mean little to me unless all else is equal, especially as I'm not going to be following behind my car.

i dunno, as i've never heard an 05 mcs go at it, but i hear they have this incredible misfire popping noise (ie, rally cars) thought not as loud.

I'm in the process of sourcing an 05 muffler and one balling it.

Had a chat with one of our valued sponsors of NAM about this. He went as far as to cut open and inspect an early MCS exhaust and an '05 MCS exhaust. He found virtually no difference. The performance and sound is elsewhere in the system. Go figure. Too bad we can't get someone from MINI to chime in here.

I have 2k on my 05 MCS and can vouch for the misfire popping noise. It happens mostly when letting off the gas pedal, esp at higher rpms. Doesnt bother me, but damn near everyone who has ridden in the car thinks I have a bad muffler or hole somewhere

I just purchased a milltek so this exhaust will be up for grabs within the next few weeks after the milltek gets here.

Be sure to let us know how the Miltek sounds. I have an '05 and love the popping and burbling with the stock exhaust and wouldn't want to lose that. If indeed the '05 exhaust is almost the same as previous years then no worries, I suppose, and the performance gain over stock should be similar, too.

I put my Magna Flow on after 1,000 miles on my 05MCS. Popping definitely more pronounced--not to mention the great Basso Profundo exhaust note. Truly not for the meek. Nick

hey, any of you 05'ers who needs to clear out their old junky stock muffler (har har) after putting on some monstrous exhaust...

want to donate your muffler to a good cause?

"operation: loud, popping, lightweight, 05 exhaust transplanted on an 03" can commence with your generosity. Unfortunately, starving children can't eat an exhaust from the cat-back, otherwise it could go toward a more worthy cause.

mine burbles quite a bit, but there is no distinctive popping, which is what i want to ostracize myself from the neighbors. Maybe, one day, i'll have it shoot a little mini ball of fire too...

Ok, now you got me remembering that just after I broke her in, I MTH'd and that is when I noticed the cool sounds this stock muff makes. I just wrote it off as she is broke in, but most likely that AND MTH . It all sorta happened over night as they say 'round these parts

I failed to mention that I am adding a madness header as well... Not knowing how long it will take Franz (my first MTH took less than 18 hours to get back-few weeks back) I am sending him an update so that my next post will include the header/catback/MTH new dyno and sound appreciation from the folks 'round here.

Bass Players! Great!

I play Wal basses. I have two five strings, fretted and fretless. 99.5% of my playing is on fretless. Check-out some music clips at:

http://www.gnkmusic.com

Tell me what you think. They are clips from the album we are in the process of recording right now.

And back to the thread...

I am picking-up my MCS on 2.23....would love to have confirmation that the exhaust is either the same as the previous ones or improved. I was thinking of going with the JCW if it improves HP.

I wouldn't call the 05's noise a barble, or even a burble. My 325 with a supersprint burbled, my 05 MCS pops. Or as female passengers say, it farts.

It is actually a little alarming at first; after reading about it I totally expected a burble. I definitely don't dislike the pop, just getting used to it.

Pat, your got it, that is what mine sounds like, BUT I noticed it more pronounced after MTH, not from day 1 or 2.

quick off topic: my arsenal is a 92 Thunderbird, 96 Jazz (***); 2000 P Jazz from the custom Fender shop; 93 yamaha fretless; 80s Peavey foundation w/ Guns & Roses sticky still in tact! Played through ampeg with fingers only.
