Fel-Pro manifold gasket design

Hi all,

Been skulking around for a while on these super helpful forums. But now I think I need some opinions.

I'm repairing a header on an R53 and found that the gasket I got from the part store looks way different than the one I took out.

I saw on some other threads that fel-pro had a bad rap concerning valve cover gaskets.
Wondering what people have to say about this one before I waste time putting it in.

Leaving it in the package for a potential return, but it looks at least 4x thicker, and I don't think it has the same raised design as the original.

What do you think?

Thanks!

I've used that gasket with no issues at all....

but as a disclaimer, I always Copper Spray my metal gaskets, whether they are new or I'm reusing them. (Exhaust, Intake, S/C Horn, Intake to Throttle Body Housing)

BlwnAway,

On that note about the copper spray. The can does say for exhaust manifolds, but the temp rating is only for 500 degF.

Does anyone know if this is sufficient for an R53?
What happens above 500 degF ... is it useless or potentially harmful?

Honestly I don't know, but it's absolutely not harmful.
What I do know, all of mine have still had some residual spray still on them when I've taken them apart.

No leaks!

Just to close up this thread, I did end up installing the Fel-Pro gaskets with copper spray as advised.
No obvious leaks.
