Alta Intercooler Couplings

Maybe it is just me, but I bought a Alta v1 Intercooler with couplings off the marketplace recently. Anyway though I'm finding it near impossible to get the silicon coupling over the small outlet flange of the intercooler. Anyone else have trouble with this? Any hints to get it on easier. I tried for about half an hour just to fit it on today, but it just doesn't want to fit.

Use some engine oil sparingly on IC output and inner edge of coupler. Lube does work!

some people boil up some water and dip them in the water to soften them a bit.

Use caution with got water and silicone couplers

it's a tough install, but worth the pain. i used to split oem boots at the track on a regular basis. no problems w/ the alta boots! hot water or a heat gun/hair dryer to make it more flexible.

Glad to here that it isn't just me at least. I'll try a couple of these and see what happens. At least I'm sure there will be a good seal

What I did was to turn them while they were on to help slide the last of it over the lip. It is easier the second time after they have been on for a long time.

You just need to be patient, it was a real PITA for me to install as well.

Heat them up in some hot water, use a little lube on the horns, and loosen the front IC bolt brackets.

Works everytime.

Well, after both myself and a friend of mine spent about an hour trying to get these things on we finally just went and used the stock couplers on the new IC. Oh well, I did manage to get them on with some boiling water, but I just did not have enough space to squeeze in onto the manifold input pipe thing.

Did you try loosening the front IC brackets so the ic can be moved around a bit more?

I used a round edge of a wrench and pushed the underside of the couplers around the right horn from the top.

why not just use what Alta recommends: a bent awl???.......just be careful That's what I used. Took the brackets off completely from the IC. Put the IC into the pass side boot first. Then slid the driver side boot onto the horn and lowered the IC into the boot. I slipped the boot on as far as I could and the bottom of the boot ended up folding over on me, so I carefully stuck the tip of the awl in between the IC and the boot and slowly pulled and the boot unfolded as I pulled and straightened out perfectly. Took about 3-4 minutes.....

I had to trim mine to get them to fit. Major Pita instal but my stock couplers were dry rotted and about to split.

Now why would you go and follow the directions/recomendations of the manufacturer

had the opportunity to deal with a set of these recently

4 hands are better than 2 .... we had absolutely no problem once we worked together to do both sides at once. take the IC completely off. set the new couplings in place and press everything down evenly..... a one minute job that simply took 4 hands

My intercooler boots aren't actually from Alta. I forget who made them, but they didn't come with instructions.

Do I use the stock brackets?

I am looking towards buying some new bellows from Alta but I was wondering if I should use the stock hinges/brackets from the old bellows.
