Drivetrain anyone have an issue with the drivers side axle popping out under hard acceleration?
anyone have an issue with the drivers side axle popping out under hard acceleration?
Have destroyed 2 axles now, axle pops out on hard acceleration, hard upshift. pops the axle out and sheers off the splines, car is modded, intercooler, Howerton meth, head flowed, bigger turbo, RPM stage 3, probably pushing 300, wavetrak lsd. Car is lowered on H&R's, Bilstein B8's, front and rear H&R sway bars. Was thinking I have to upgrade my dogbone to prevent the upshift jolt, maybe causing this problem, any thoughts????
Have you verified all motor mounts are in good condition? Lowering the body messes with original axle angles, then with lotsa torque applied the engine wants to rotate and twist even more. I'm running 400+ ft/lbs torque but OEM suspension height --- have no problems with axles popping out. OSG LSD and Vibra-Technics lower engine mount --- really stiff for minimum engine movement. Do your axles have the "C-clip" installed on the splines, to help keep them in place?
yes c clips installed, I have a feeling it could do with axle angle as well. Will have to install urethane bushing into the wishbone, maybe that will help. mounts look ok, not torn or week, but I don't think the axles are held in very tight, I noticed they are very easy to pop out. Installed brand new axle so hopefully c clip will have better retention.
If axles are easy to pop out, any chance they aren't all the way in? The c clip is supposed to go in past the LSD spline so it can expand inside the LSD, making it difficult to remove the axle. Then there's the LSD --- could it be the wrong model, designed for a different diameter / length axle?
Hello friend i would like to ask you the camber you have and + i will tell you something that worked for me.
Actually if you have it setup fro drag like 0 camber its making easier the axle to remove -1/-2/-3deg is ok but 0 is the worst you can do.
What ive noticed/fixed.
The recess that the wavetrack has is a bit thinner than the safety spline that clips/locks at the wavetrack. So if you make the clip a bit thinner it will go deeper/further into the recess so it will hold/lock better.
You have to check it manualy when you press it and "locks" how easy it is coming out??If it is easy enough try do what ive said and check it again manualy.

I fixed mine as i said and my axle is genuine mini never changed it!

I was not replying to you, but what I said was clear, cheap aftermarket pop out there's hundreds of posts on it on here and FB groups
Think i have fixed the situation, got another aftermarket axle under warranty, inspected the clip, it is just barely above the splines. removed my factory axle clip, spread it out and installed it on the aftermarket axle, seems to be fine. Also noticed the aftermarket retainer clip is perfectly round, the factory clip is oblong. Good point with the Wavetrak, but I know 2 other people with the same diff and no issues, maybe I got a unit with the thin retaining grooves.
