One ball mod question - driver side vs passenger side

Hi NAM,

I’m wanting to do a one ball mod, but instead of deleting the passenger side, can I delete the driver side and have a muffler shop weld pipe that will go to the back wrapping around battery box? The reason is I want to leave the weight on the passenger side for balance. I understand this may not make it any louder which I am
fine with. Has anyone done anything like this? What are your thoughts? My main goal is weight reduction for cheap without upsetting the balance too much. Thanks

I have never heard of anyone doing this but it can be done. I think that the main reason the one ball normally leaves the drivers side is because it's easier and cheaper. It will make it a little louder but not by much. The corner balance from the one ball, either side, will not be much as well, but I like your thinking. Do it! Post a video with sound so that we can hear the difference. I'm all for this!

Thanks for the response. I might just do it. I plan to have the shop weld a singe 2.5 inch pipe just before the pipe meets the muffler and have it wrap all the way to the back center and leave it at that, maybe a nice exhaust tip. Money saved will go towards a 6lb braille battery for the track. Already have the wiper delete kit which will save 5-6 lbs. I read somewhere that the battery box is around 9-10lbs too.

I’ll post back if and when I get it done.

Looks like a simple way to get those crackles and pops! I say go for it! But have the end of the pipe go out the back so the exhaust gasses can actually leave the car.

So this guy has the exhaust exiting under the middle of the rear seat? Not too smart, folks.

I agree-not smart at all. The least he could have done is get a $10 flex pipe and clamp it to redirect it the exhaust gases out to the back. He can even reuse part of the exhaust hanger. Wouldn’t be the best, kind ghetto, but better than carbon monoxide entering the cabin.

From the video that is what it looks like. I would hope that they put something that has it actually go out the back that isn't in the video.

Just got back from the muffler shop. $60 dollars later, here's what I have. I had them weld a pipe from the resonator that goes all the way to the back. Is it perfect? No, but I am quite happy for the price. The sound is a little too loud for me and the pops and crackles are too much. But at WOT, it is sweet. I don't have a video of that yet but here's some pics and a video at the shop.

pipe from resonator

how it exits to the back

not perfectly center, but not complaining.

Thanks! While I like it, it’s a little too loud on the streets. Cant wait to hear it on the track this Saturday. Going to streets of willow again. Will make sure to capture at least a lap.

Then later on I might have the shop add a bottle muffler or something after the resonator to decrease the volume a little. Might spray paint the tips black for low maintenance.
