Interesting water pump location

Looks like this engine is running twin-screw with an air-water intercooler, but check out where that water pump is !!!

EDIT: So that you don't have to sift through the first 5 replies to figure out if the water pump is for the engine cooling system or for charge-air cooling, it's for the engine-cooling system.

water cooled with a twinscrew.... why bother with a new intercooler with a twinscrew, let alone a water->air. Twinscrew temps are already low as it is.

Theoretically. I haven't seen any actual data from a twin-screwed MCS.

That water pump on the bottom is for the engine's cooling system. It replaces the A/C. It's too bad there isn't a twin-screw setup with an accessory drive off the backside for the stock water pump.

Ummm ... you may want to check with M7. I believe he was planning to use an electric waterpump.

Looks like that setup needs the engine water pump in place of the a/c compressor because it's usual place behind the 'charger has been usurped. That would make it the cooling system pump and not the intercooler system water pump. Electric pump for the intercooler system would still be needed as well.

I use a Davis Greg water pump with my charge cooler systems, they pump 15 litres per minute. Excellent units, very reliable

I'm not a mechanic ... so please bear with me ... the supply lines to the intercooler look like they just wrap around from one side to the other. Is this just for display or am I missing something?

It is just for display. Look for a full review on this system, with all of the data you could ever want, shortly. I'll most likely write a how-to for the install while I'm at it.

This set up uses the autorotor supercharger, and a very trick belt set up. It is another product we are in the midst of getting here to eval. It is available in a race version - shown - with the mechanical water pump, and a street version with an electrical water pump (a BMW part from the 6 series).

More info to follow.

Randy, I hope you don't mind a few q's. If not:

1. Do you plan eval both versions - street and race?

2. Is there anything else sacrificed with the race version, other than the A/C? My MINI will be exclusively a Fall & Winter ride in the not-so-distant future.... so long as I have cabin heat, I'd be fine without an A/C.

3. As it seems that you might be carrying this item, how does the project with M7 fit into the picture?

Thanks a bunch!

I will be evaluating both units - eventually. I need to work out the funds to get both pieces, and I need to let them get to the point of being ready to sell it as a consumer product.

The race does just sacrifice the air, and it uses more boost.

The M7/Webb Motorsports version of the twinscrew will be done with a replacement intake manifold and intercooler. It is a much more elaborate kit. You can look at the RMS kit as a "starter" and the M7 as an "insane" kit.

Hope that helps!

Randy

I think this mod is officially dead, Autoxguy. Rumor has it that even if it was available, which it's not, it would run in the neighborhood of $10k given current exchange rate.

R.I.P.
