That said, there are many things that can cause problems now and
later if the pulley is not installed correctly. This job is best left to those
with experience and proper tools. Yes I could install the pulley myself,
but $300 is cheap insurance to know that it is done right. Also, some
vendors (Like Webb Motorsports) even offer a warranty.
PS I also could do brain surgery.

Randy has provided very good How to instuctions with pictures on his WEB site so there really isn't a problem doing it yourself or your mechanic friend.
Get you hands dirty, take some pride in your MINI.
PS to be a good surgeon you have to be a good mechanic first, ask any Doctor.

Let's look on the dark side a minute. Some people here have touched on possible warranty issues with the S/C and waterpump. You really aren't looking at the "big" picture. An unscrupulous dealer could, theoretically, blame any drivetrain component failure on your aftermarket pulley, more so, if you have anything larger than the 15% one.
I'm not stating this to get a debate going. I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation. Dealers don't make money on warranty repairs. Most of them will fight tooth and nail to get around one. Since the advent of the JCW kit, the legitimacy of the 15% has been increased somewhat. However, I wouldn't put it past some dealers out there (from what i've read about some of them) to claim that a clutch, axle or even a transmission failure was a direct result of the increased power achieved by an add on pulley.
We pretty much have ascertained that line of thought is the brown stuff we try to avoid stepping in, but don't be surprised if a dealer tries to feed it to you. If you happen into the service department of one of these guys be prepared. You might be able to negotiate (ie:argue) your point, if you're willing to go head to head with them and MINIUSA. At the same time, be prepared for additional financial expenses in the way of a lawyer if the situation escalates to court appearances. It could turn into a very costly experience (lawyer, rentals, missed work, etc...), even if you win. All this plus the added insult of being without your car while the situation's being handled.
Granted this is all a "worse case" scenario, but it's one that should be brought out as a possibility. Expect the worst from a dealer (then you'll be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen). Fore-warned is fore-armed, and all that good stuff.

I think it is pretty lame to remove all the posts from a banned member. Some of these people did have good observations and things to say. Definitely removal of suspect material should be deemed appropriate, but other information doesn't make sense.
Why was caddman banned? I thought he was a vendor also?
