Can someone be a little more clear on that for me? My new '05 only has about 1000 miles and while voiding the warranty causes some issues for me I prefer to have some fun!

Does this mean the entire warranty is void? or does this mean specific parts of the warranty will be void?

What if I get a Mini mechanic to install the pulley?

Thanks!
CustomAV,

It really varies from dealer to dealer. What's funny is some dealer's say it will void the waranty, while other dealer's actually offer the upgrade!!! I wouldn't worry about it though, for 2 reasons. 1. if anything did go wrong, your only out 2 hrs by having to pop the factory one back in. 2. The law says, a manufacturer can't void your waranty unless they can prove the damage actually was a result of the modification.

Concerns about 15% pulley.

I am concerned with long term performance with a 15% pulley installed.

Who has one here thats been running it for a long time? Have you noticed any side effects? Are you running stock ecu and belt? Is this car your daily driver? and of course which brand are you running. Can't wait for responses.

The highest mileage MINI on this forum - dpilgrim, has over 100k miles, and most of those with his 15% pulley. You're not going to find any negatives to the 15%, plain and simple. Also, read this other new thread in this same forum

I asked a nam member about putting the stock pulley back on and he said it was possible. Is this because of the puller he used? It was the latest ones where you don't have remove the tensioner during the installation.

I think the Alta is one of the most popular pulleys, but most any pulley from any of the reputable vendors such as Helix, Webbmotorsports and the such will do just fine.

Like was posted by Ryephile, you won't find any complaints on the pulley. Thousands of these have been put on. I think Randy Webb said today that he has done 448 of them just by himself. Many people have 50,000 miles plus on there pulley and as far as the message boards are concerned, I don't believe there has every been a single reported failure due to a pulley. Stock ECU will be fine with the pulley. For $400 it is the most bang for the buck and you will most definitely notice a difference. It is quite dramatic.

Randy, let me get this straight the superchargers on the 05 and the JWC kits are identical?? So If I got a 15% pully and flashed my ECU with the cooper works software I would be close to or equal to a car with the JCW kit? I already have the JCW air-intake.......this could be interesting

NO! NO! NO!!!
Read the following fact and repeat after me:
*All and every MCS to date has the exact same supercharger pulley size. We'll call this the "0% reduction" pulley
*All and every JCW MCS to date has a "13.8% reduction" pulley

There are NO changes to any MY05 MCS supercharger pulley sizes, just to ram the point home. I've already measured them. Randy has already measured them. They are identical to the earlier years.

To Summarize:
2002-2005 MCS: 0% pulley
2002-2005 JCW MCS: 13.8% pulley

It's actually more than 13.8% on a JCW - you can do the math 'cause I'm tired right now, but the JCW is 2.21" and the 15% is 2.18".

As Rye said, the '05 cars have the same coating on the rotor vanes - which is what had separated the JCW from the MCS other than the pulley in the past. Now, the JCW and '05 cars are only separated by the pulley size. They still replace the entire unit when making the swap however, rather than changing the pulley on the existing supercharger.

2005 pulleys are the exact same as 2002-2004 pulleys.

Hope that helps!

Randy

I price match, but I charge $400 for the pulley installed and including the Webb Motorsports 2/24 warranty.

Not installed, I go $119, but as I said above, Webb Motorsports price matches.

The JCW pulley is right at 14%.

What is interesting is the cost of the pulley to install. It has always been roughly $400 for the pulley and installation, no matter where you go or who you talk to. I wondered where the price came from, because I have seen some shops struggle for four hours doing the pulley and Randy has done them in less than 45 minutes. It seems that Randy set the price long time ago (early 2003) and it has become almost a price index. I paid that price and I think it was still fair, I just thought it was an interesting observation as to the way the price has come about the influence Randy's pulley parties have on some of the industry.

I'm sure your friend is a mechanic and a fine one at that.
That said, there are many things that can cause problems now and
later if the pulley is not installed correctly. This job is best left to those
with experience and proper tools. Yes I could install the pulley myself,
but $300 is cheap insurance to know that it is done right. Also, some
vendors (Like Webb Motorsports) even offer a warranty.

PS I also could do brain surgery.

Has anyone heard of the JCW pulley being offered as a stand-alone upgrade from the dealer? It'd be an interesting offer, dealer-installed & warranty supported 14.6% pulley.

I know what dealers will and won't do varies, but has this been done anywhere?

No it is not offered as a stand along upgrade. The pulley is part of the kit and is not interchangeable. It is installed directly onto a new supercharger before it gets to the dealership. Only the intake and exhaust are offered as standalone.

No the pulley is not 14.6%, but closer to 14%.

The 15% will not cause any warranty issues, so it is not worth it to pursue a JCW pulley for your stock car.

Ryephile.........you need to log off every now and then and get some sleep man........ I understand the stock pulley sizes remain the same size. That was not the question I had asked. My question was and still is......I just wanted to confirm that the 05 "SUPERCHARGERS" are identical to the JCW superchargers sans the pulley??

Doin' the math

X / 15 = 2.18 / 2.21

X = 2.18 / 2.21 * 15

X = 14.796379
