Shark Injector?

I know this is some sort of a programmer such as Hypertechs Power Programmer but I have not seen any gains posted, Does anybody use this and if so is it a good investment

I use it.

The Shark Injector is a self-contained device that is not user programmable. It copies your stock program and then installs the Shark’s alterations. All factory safety features are retained and the rev limit is raised. The form factor of this device has an advantage when it comes to convenience. Installation or return to stock is easy, and if you get a new CD update, all you need do is mail the unit back for a free upgrade. The change it makes in drivability/throttle response has been well worth the initial investment. Factor in the lack of aggravation from update and compatibility woes some alternative programs have given others and it gains added value. I don’t have a post Shark install dyno plot to show. My power deltas have come from a pulley reduction and other tweaks, no illusions here. However, the program’s effect is definitely positive.

I have dyno results that show the Shark Injector produced HP and torque output lower than the stock MCS ECU on my 2004. The AFR was wacky, too. Of course, I suppose YMMV... but I returned mine.

For the money, the MTH upgrade is a much better value!

My neighbor has the shark, I have MTH

And we're both happy! he has more $ than me, and went to someone to do a whole package (pully, CAI, shark, exhaust) and he loves it. I don't have the $, so I went the HAI, the one-ball exhaust, and the MTH. The only issue is the hassle in getting a computer that still REALLY suports the com port! the Shark is self contained, but only supports one tune at a time, MTH allows you to load any of many tunes into the car, so it's more flexible.

Me, I'm an MTH fan.....

If you're looking for a flash-based ECU upgrade, GIAC is an excellent option, available from Helix13 MINIsports

MTH is by all reports a one-man operation in Germany who does the MINI ECU tuning on a "barely for profit" basis (although Franz, the individual involved, reportedly does ECU tuning for the large German performance shop Hartge as his "day job"). Because of time and/or language limitations, Franz has been slow to respond to e-mails. Most folks have been willing to accept this, given the MTH price of about $75-80 (less cable, another $100) versus $400 (and up!) for other ECU tuning solutions... plus the fact that the MTH solution makes you independent relative to flashing/reflashing the ECU yourself (like the Shark) with different mapping profiles (unlike the Shark).

If you're looking for a more "traditional" ECU tuning solution (and have the $$$) then I can recommend the Superchips product. GIAC and others are good as well...

Shark on other cars

I used the Shark on a 315 HP M Roadster that I had. It was supposed to provide 15 extra HP and all the BMW people on their forums swore by it. I didn't notice any appreciable difference and wouldn't have bought it again.
The nice thing about it is that if your dealer reprograms the car to factory specs while doing service you can re-program it back.

I wouldn't trust that dyno. According to that dyno, an intake makes 11lbs of torque and 13hp when intakes have been shown to make 2 or 3hp tops and virtually no torque.

I think that intake make 10-13 WITH the software. Intake alone would not make more than 5...i think.

I'm still looking and searching. AMD is also the same kind of deal.

What if you get more mods on the car, do you need to send Shark to get a new program...and how much?

No - check out the chart again. One line is Stock, the next is Pulley and software showing a 23hp gain over stock and the final line is pulley, software and INTAKE showing a 13hp gain over pulley and software. http://www.outmotoring.com/products/...sharkdyno1.pdf

yes...I mean intake with ECU and Pulley should make more number than intake alone with stock engine, isn't it?

...but 13 HP is amazing..I want that intake.

Just the opposite. The more mods you add, the less each one makes. On a pullied car with an ECU, most intakes probably make less to nothing.

you dont have to send it back in thats the good part it adapts to your mods and if its time for a service just plug in the shark and put the ecu back to stock
