Drivetrain help with throttle jerkyness
help with throttle jerkyness
I just put on Randy's TB and the Ryphile fix #2 and my car is as jerky as can be under load of 3rd and 4th gear from 2700 to 4K. Not under load it is fine. The car has Randy's Unichip, a dinan intake, Borla street and 15%. WTF is up? It is a nightmare. Ryan suggested that it was my left foot. Ryan, I know your out there but I'm sorry I have to dismiss this. I have owned and driven many performance cars, motocycles and a Mooney 201 and I have never had this. Randy just remapped the chip based on the current mods. If I can't straiten this out it may be good by Mini hello something else. I love driving this car and the suspension upgades , wheels and tires etc at WOT are a blast but throttle modulation for everyday driving is a mess. Help
Are you saying that you have already talked with Randy about this and he can't help? This would really surprise me if he has thrown up his hands and walked away from this.
All I know is that Randy say's that I'm not ready for a TB until I do the head and cam. I have all other mods but this, but he still says wait till after the head/cam install or it won't really improve my performance.

You've probably already tried this... but have you reset the ECU (using the odometer trick) to clear the adaptive memory? Some folks that have had similar problems with new loads of v38/v39 ECU code have seen dramatic improvement by doing this.

SpiderX - you never told me the jerkiness was under load-only! ...also I said your right foot was lacking sensitivity, lol. That certainly changes things. Are you sure you're not feeling the Yo-Yo? Did you not have this feeling at all prior to TB and Ryephix? Is there a chance the Ryephix was not installed correctly, or the bypass valve was not installed correctly? Does the bypass valve look and feel like it functions correctly?
Since your current installer apparently can't help, go have ScottGBRG take a look at your car. Rule #1 is to NEVER install two unknowns on the car simultaineously.
put a zip-tie on the bypass valve to keep it closed (the position the valve is in when the engine is OFF). That will let you determine if the TB is the issue or not. Also take the UNIchip off the car and then reset the ECU, go through my adaptive logic break-in routine and get back to me.

*Recheck the TB installation for proper seating and sealing
*unplug the UNIchip and drive the car for a few days for the ECU to relearn its' stock mapping
Can you perhaps provide a bit more insight as to exactly what you're feeling with the "jerkiness"? It is definitely not the Yo-Yo? Any sounds associated with the jerkiness?
Good luck!

Just to update everyone. The car is at Rspeed and Hector is removing the "fix2 spring" just to eliminate a variable. I am sure that it is not the cause because I tied the valve shut, and no change. Hector is going to look over everything and reset the ECU. On Wed of next week the car goes into KNowledge Performance in Kennesaw GA for a Dyno. I'm hoping we get some info out of that. I keep hearing mixed reviews on the Unichip and wonder if anyone else has had problems and if they would relate them to me. Because of smooth idle (except once in a blue moon) and smooth response not under load I think it is in the ECU mapping. I have a call into Randy and he has not gotten back from the weelkend pulley party in VA yet. I beginning to think that if you are going to custom chip a car you need to sit at the dyno with the computer. I am learning that all these cars are individuals and they need to be treated as such. On the positive side, WOT is still a lot of fun. The car runs very strong and pulls like crazy all the way to redline. And, after 4K everything is very smooth.
