I have the B&M..... works great... no problems... very smooth and you know it is in gear by the positive feel

Funny with that technique; I've never seen that before, but that's already how I shift!

.... once again, I have the Alta and love it. I do think it's the best shifter out there for the Mini. Remember, Alta does make aftermarket performance parts for Minis and Minis alone. The option of being able to adjust the throw ratio is quite a plus. With this you can tailor the feel to your own taste.

It’s hard to really get an idea on witch is better here unless someone has actually used more then one to compare. I’m sure that the BM and Alta perform about identically. But as I say, the advantage of the Alta would be it adjustability.

As with anything you should really try it out installed in a MINI before you buy.
I have a B&M with aftermarket **** and while it works OK and cost about $130 plus labor, I think another good choice would be the much less expensive and simple Helix13 short shift kit (keeps stock **** height and positive shift action).

Alta is fully adjustable in height but also the most costly.

I have heard from others that sometimes drivers have a harder time getting the gears shifted to reverse after adding a SS kit. I don't notice that much in mine.

Nope. And after talking with them the other day it doesn't even sound like they have any plans for it either. :(

advice: pilo SS is Meghan SS. Go to ebay for meghan SS, it is $30.

They are listed as austin mini cooper and the like. Just look for the model year.

relabeling sucks.

I got the Helix installed when i replaced my exhaust- I like the shorter throw with the stock height. No problems with a year of use.
