I thought that with the weather you have been having you could use this guy in your area:
Not to worry, though, spring is coming.
We had an incredibly mild and dry January. But February's nonstop snow and downpours has just about made up for the good days the month prior. Today is the first reprieve from the incessant onslaught of foul weather so Desire got to stretch her trotters. My area were spared from the snow dump though while our norther neighbor state got the big dump. We were also spare from the widespread flooding.
Our club is organizing an unschedule tract event this weekend, if there are enough crazies that sign up. You will need big boy pants and mittens, and will need studded tires to drive on the track.
A relief from winter blue there is an uplifting photo. My neighbor is a avid car and motorcycle collector and his collection includes Porsches and Ferraris.
Also my new neighbor next door has a 991.2 GT3 so I already not keeping up with the Jones.
This is amongst the things that I do to occupy my amoeba brain during the winter months. Binge-watching streaming videos and learning new culinary tricks are my other favorite pastimes.
Looking inside of a rather old F1 sequential gearbox - I was hoping he would show how the shift drum works as it is the most interesting part of a dog box. No luck. Still, what a beautiful human achievement - toss to the MEs.
Really interesting viddie there, thanks for posting it.
Cool to see the inner bits and such stuff.
I used to read Racecar Engineering magazine which sometimes ran some nice technical articles. I was especially interested in WRC rallycar technologies at the time, but I haven't read an issue in quite a while.
I've never driven a dogbox but I've always wanted to.
Could you imagine the super-whine that an R53 would have if running such a gearbox!

I binge watch races...
Just finished watch the 24 hrs of Daytona and have moved on to the Bathurst 12 hr race. That will keep me occupied for a few more days. Still snowing here. Skiing tomorrow ...
Oh no, it is Shmee. I was immediately turned off when I first encounter him on YT, and always wonder where the fund came from. However it seems he earned it, at least from following his dream. Obviously if he can get MINI to let him drive in a factory car in an event he brings a lot to the corporate table for promotion purposes.
Over at MiniTorque there is a mortal soul (CarsOrBikes) like us that does HPDE and has a dog box in an R53. He shared very little specifics and I infer it is likely just a modified R53 Getrag 6 speed with an aftermarket (possibly from Quaife) mod kit (he also has a CoolerWorx shifter), hence likely not a sequential but one with the same gear shift pattern like the standard ones.
My closest of driving a sequential are my motorbikes and I did canon racing in my youthful days, and am glad that I still waking and kicking. I cannot let myself buying one of the sexy Italian 2-wheel machines that are also pieces of art.
I watched that whole video and was so hypnotized by the straight cut gear sound.
Formular 1 Dictionary has a lot of great articles, despite a lot of the technologies in F1 are top secrets. Here is one of the few articles on gear boxes. When in high school, I had wonder about the basic idea of innovative transmissions designs which would later became CVT and dual clutch gear box. Of course I only had the understanding at the time of how a clutch, and manual gear box work. Let just say I could have filed a patent like a lot of SW patents that have worthless implementation value except to file a suit in East Texas as prior art.
I was having a brainfart. I have researched dog box before and Quaife makes the sequential box for Mini Challenge. You have to google it with the right keywords to find it.
I didn’t have the hang of shifting without the clutch, but my friend in the orange truck in front of me can both up and downshift without the clutch. That was a “test drive” of a used one.
After I found a YT video from M7 posted in 2008 about a "sequential" paddle shift conversion, I came across this wind tunnel @ UNCC video M7 post recently. It is too good not to share here of the streamline-not aero-dysfunctional Mini hog, especially why there is always the dirty butt that requires constant hogwash .

I watched 24h Nurburgring from start to finish and was nail bitting from begin to end. I started watching Bathurst 24 but other things has kept me from it.
Yep, there was nothing like it for MINI unless you were a factory WRC car and there were dong an F1 type style shifter. Very cool and ahead of the game
My Midlands started to make a sound similar to having the straight cut gears before it was rebuilt. It's way cheaper to get a failing Midland box then the other options. ;-)

Go shows the Brits know a few thing about what make a bloody proper sounding car.
So I gather you finally got yourself an R53 for track to preserve the more desirable R50?

Is the silver in the second foto Randy's own R53 with his sequential shift? Is that an amp and bad **** subwoofer on the boot floor?
There are a lot of takeaways in the video. Not just the mirrors that have mega drag. The A pillars and the exposed wipers contributions are huge. They are the reason older cars are so noisy at highway speed. Also there is next to no air going into the cowl vents.
I am quite impressed with the M7 front splitter, and especially the rear wing that is aerodynamic correct. The only problem with getting these for Desire is the MINI outdoor cover cannot be used anymore. Also in the corning speeds on our track there are so much more places to spend money before Desire gets to that point that warrants these.
I'm a fan of the Orranje G-wing, although it might not be as effective as the M7 since it sits a little lower, however Orranje now offer an adjustable version which may help.
The design is pretty much a copy of the GP wing, made with quality materials and well-finished.
