Oil Port?

I've just installed oil pressure and oil temperature gauges using CravenSpeed's new gauge mount for the F5X Minis. Now I need to connect the sending units to the engine and I can't seem to find a port to engine oil anywhere. The most logical spot was by the oil filter housing, but I could find a plug or port. If anyone has seen a B4X or even a B38 engine up close or out of a car I'd appreciate and info you might have.

Check this drawing - it's the 3 cylinder but I'm sure the sensor is in the same place. The oil pressure sensor part number is the same as the JCW. Clearly this is not a great position to get to - wish we could tap into the wiring harness for the MINI gauge pod.

Papa- Just our of interest Autometer recommend that you go with a sandwich oil filter adapter with 1 or 2 x 1/8"npt threads. They say that is the best way. Certainly easy to get to. Thoughts?

- forget this of course MINI's have paper filters! The Oil sensor tread is M12 x 1.5 but that would have to adapt to a 1/8" npt....tough.

I was going to say - no sandwich adapter, not even if you had one of my Spin-on Oil Filter Adapters that could use a sandwich adapter, as there just isn't enough room before you hit the lower radiator support (I've tried).

If you're certain that the oil port is M12 X 1.5 then I can work from there to make an adapter for one or two additional ports (2,3 total) so we can add extra sensors.

I would want to get a MINI oil pressure sensor to confirm. I read that size is pretty standard on the new BMW engines.

When compared to the 1/8 NPT usually seen on the sensors an M12 thread is somewhat large (almost 1/2" OD) so verification is in order before I can proceed. It shouldn't take long to gen up an adapter once I get in there to see where the clearance(s) might be.

I wouldn't buy a sensor just dig down there and pull the one on the car and measure. Whoever gets there first has to spill the beans!

I designed and developed an adapter to convert the new Minis (F-series) from the paper element filter to a standard spin-on oil filter. I tried to offer it here but the sponsors didn't like it and took down my post (thyy may do it with this one too). Anyway I'm on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...6+oil&_sacat=0

It uses spin on filters that are available about everywhere, takes about ten minutes to install and is completely reversible. If you like the idea - buy one - I'd appreciate it! In fact I'm almost done with a remote oil filter set up for the R series cars so you don't have to futz with the radiator overflow tank to change your oil filter - tell your friends.
