Short Shifter

I installed a CravenSpeed adjustable short shifter this past weekend. What a wonderful difference! The feel is nice and taut and so much better than stock, even if you don't change the stroke ratio. I immediately went full lock to the shortest throw and I'm going to stay there forever. In fact I like it so much, that when I got in the 911 today, I was appalled with how bad it now felt to me (guess I'm spending money there too now).

I will say the instructions are vague at points (you have the DL them from their site as nothing comes with the unit) and downright lacking (removing the white plastic shift rod keeper) at some others. But if you're marginally mechanically capable you should be able to get through it. You absolutely will need a helper for the white plastic thingy removal as without a minimum of three hands it just isn't going to happen.

My compliments to CravenSpeed on a nicely done item. I even found you can loosen and tighten the adjusting nut through the shifter boot, so if your significant other would prefer another setting, it can be quickly re-adjusted and locked down in a tool-less fashion.

Instructions, I guess they are not our strong suit. If there is anything specific you think we ought to add, we want to. That is one of the reasons we keep them online, so we can update regularly.

Also take a look at my instructions if you're going to give this a try. The instructions are for a countryman, but it's 99% the same, you just don't have that pesky All4 drive train in your way.

By far my favorite mod to my car.

does the cravenspeed short shifter reduce the side to side throw? i know its not adjustable, but thats something that would make me buy it over the cheaper helix extension.

I hadn't really thought much about it before, the answer should be yes. The reduction would not be a drastic as it is fore and aft, but the lateral movement required is reduced a bit since the length of the shaft above the fulcrum is shortened. The front and back movement is reduced further because the cables move in that direction, and (like the Helix) the length below the fulcrum is extended to shorten the throw.

Still trying to determine if this will work on the F55 as well.
