How much HP before the stock 330cc injectors give out?

I know alot of guys will jump up to a 380cc, 440cc, or even a 550cc injector because they think they need it (and I'm sure some do). But has anyone done any dyno testing on a car with the stock 330cc injectors? At what point do they have to run at 100% duty cycle, and simply will not supply any more fuel and cause the AFR's to run to lean? What's the highest HP anyone has ever got with a 330cc injector setup and still be able to show safe AFR's?

What I am about to say is in no way FACT, it is what I have been told and seen, from my recent experience with a Dyno/Tune Party (that I hosted) and information that I got from the Tuner (RMW), about injectors.

I personally am running the JCW 380cc units, I was told by the tuner that these are ok for my setup:

06 MCSa
Header
Exhaust
15%
CAM
Tune

Now remember that my setup is limited in the RPM range that it can reach (on a good day manually shifting 6800 RPMs). I am making a little over 200 WHP. Also the AFR that I saw during 11 Dyno Runs was always well within safe. I do know know what my duty cycle was for the top end of the 380cc injectors, but I never go lean.

THAT BEING SAID: every one of the other tuned cars that made at least 200WHP and the top one making 250~WHP were all running the 440cc Injectors.

There is no reason to run the 550cc, unless you are running:

  • A stroker motor
  • Making more than 300 WHP
  • Get them super cheap
  • Going to run E85

This is correct.

Thanks for the info. Based off of that....I'm guessing that my 03' MCS should be ok with the 330cc injectors and an intake, exhaust, 200hp JCW tune, and a 17% pulley? It seems like you are running more mods (cam & header) and you are just fine with the 380cc injectors.....

If you are spinning past 7k rpm I would say get the JCW units to be safe as they scale without a tune.

But I would Guess and its just that a guess, that with the 17% pulley and 200hp tune you are getting the outside of what the 330cc units can handle.

This is factory info, so it's real safe, but keep in mind bhp/whp, the factory "210" JCW engine is only 165-175 WHP, but yes, the above info is prob. pretty close as a guess, and RPM is actually the biggest factor with your mods.

17% is NOT factory, and under full boost and RPM, I would like the little bit of Ins. that 380cc buys me.

Slightly adjusted the way I said it, sorry for the confusion.

Basically though, should be ok with those mods, just don't "live" in the upper rpm's.

I would still have to take issue, with that tune and 330cc injectors.

The original JCW Kit included the 380cc injectors, so even MINI/JCW thought it safer to run the 380cc injectors with that state of tune. And again keep in mind that factory/JCW was only an ~11% pulley.

Possibly, but with only a pre-facelift tune (which were still 330's) and just the pulley you would think that only short bursts above 6400 would be ok enough, but that's just a guess anyway, back in 1st gen days (when they were new) more than a few people ran them that way, plus it's still the stock head, there's really nowhere for the air to go anyway.

And I will agree and say that mine is nothing but a guess also

the 330's are only probably good for 210whp. my buddy runs a 17%, CAI, DT BPV, and JCW cat back made 200whp and was at 90% duty cycle. that was with tunning the stock injectors to do that. if left untuned i dont think it will work out to well.

here is his dyno chart with afr's on it as you can see with his car it was very lean.
