What is the favored ECU tune for the R53?

I know there may not be one specific favored ecu tune among R53 owners but I hope you guys could provide me with some insight as to which ecu tunes are recommended. I am currently running my 03 r53 with K&N intake, MSD ignition coil, and i will be upgrading the pulley and belt to a 17% reduction BEFORE the tune.
I have been looking at a lot of different tunes and many of them seem to be misleading . Some clarity would be appreciated as well as some shared personal experiences with ECU tunes.
or if you could point me in the direction of a thread with the information that would be appreciated as i could not find one.

future modification plans include Borla race exhaust, jcw fuel injectors and HFIC

I have a RMW tune and absolutely love it. Very reliable, Jan is an expert with our cars. He came to CT to tune a bunch of local Minis. Great to deal with. I would recommend him. He also a flashtool in case you can't dyno the car on of his Tuning days.

I've been reading on this same topic and I've read to finish modifications before tuning bud i.e. get injectors first otherwise you'll have to tune again to get the most out of said parts yet to buy. I'm almost convinced of 450 injectors and tune is the good next step. But that's just me

You're confusing that comment with a "Canned" flash tune, which is a "one size fits all" tune for your mods, and yes, stay away from them.

I'm a Mynes/Byteronic person myself.

IMO, as much as they are my preference, between the two, you can't go wrong. Do your research, pick the one that best suits your, needs, logistics, time frame and wallet

Jan tours the country doing tuning at reputable shops with dynos. I had him tune my car at a place in Rochester, NY (Eksten's Garage), a couple years back.

I'd recommend one of his tunes. I haven't ever had any negatives. No stutters, no check engine lights, no limp modes. Nothing.

His tunes extract much more out of your car than a "canned tune" could.

If you can find out where he's going to be doing tunes in the next few months, perhaps he'll be heading down your way...

Good luck!

If you want to use Jan, just give him a call and he will explain everything you need to know. I believe he now does more remote tunes than tuning parties. A remote tune will more or less involve having a flash tool, a computer, going to a dyno, and doing runs while communicating remotely with him. The dyno shop logs the dyno pulls, sends them to Jan, he adjusts as needed, and sends a file back, so you can upload through the flash tool via the OBD port to your cars computer. This process repeats itself until Jan is satisfied. It is a custom tune, just done remotely.

Your car will need to be in tiptop shape for it to work as desired. You have to make sure you have a good condition accessory belt with at least 1 and 1/2 holes showing in the tensioner and you need to make a health check for your car, make sure you have good compression in the cylinders, no exhaust or vacuum leaks, etc. He also recommends you have an OEM coil and wires, they work better than MSD in our cars.

Good Luck!

I've been looking to get my car tuned for a while now and keep hearing about him coming to CT in years past...
Standing by for more info....

BTW - I know everyone always says to do a search - its a lot easier to say... Almost too much information and it creates great confusion on some of these topics.
