That could work when you are under vacuum.

So I got a new intake for the car. The NM engineering intake kit. It came very well packaged.

I havent had time to install it yet but it looks quality. I have not decided if I want to get the silver part powder coated green or not. But the carbon fiber looks great. Hopefully I will be able to get it installed soon.

Now for all of you "HOT air" intake people. Don't try that argument with me. I will prove you wrong time and time again. When driving the IAT are only a few degrees above ambient temp. When spraying meth the IAT drop below ambient. So where I suck my air from doesn't really matter.

Blocking the PCV is idiotic, it is on the car for a reason.
don't do that.
It will cause you to have higher oil consumption.

It is on the car for a reason. That reason being the EPA. Also, not all cars experience excess oil consumption. I've been running mine blocked for about 20k and have had basically no consumption.

I started another thread on my experience with this rear vent capping.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...c-install.html
Quick summary (most of my posts are way too wordy) --- blocked vent AND low / no boost driving = oil consumption from back pressure. At least, this is the case for me and mine. Contrary to Czar's input and MniPwr's research in previous posts? Yes, but my experience is real, not theoretical! Probably in the minority too. Not many drivers who don't "get on it" a lot.

I actually have an update!!!

I have been waiting for it to warm up to install my new intake. I originally wanted just the NM Engineering Carbon fiber inlet pipe but decided to get the whole intake. First I would like to say that is well made and looks great on the car. Installation was pretty easy besides a few scrapes from having massive hands. It mounts nicely to the grommets and the supplied hardware keeps them from mushing out. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The carbon fiber looks good.

Pics: (and yes I am aware my engine bay is dirty)

@MNIPWR

Do you notice any change in intake temp before and after intake mod?

I have been thinking about trimming the top of my strut towers for some time now. The bulge is there to add structural support, helping to avoid mushrooming and bending. The down side is the small diameter of the opening makes it a pita to adjust camber plates. After trimming the bulge I would add a strut tower brace that includes full strut tower plates, ie. NM or M7. this should provide the same if not more support then the original design. I found some pictures from a mazda site to help explain what I mean. I am wondering if anyone had done this, and what opinions on it would be?

I'm wondering if you need to make a round hole, or should just slot them around the adjusters? I don't know what your camber plates look like. IMO, there may be a little structural benefit from the piece you are looking at trimming, but there is probably little risk from trimming it. BTW, I have a strut tower brace from Mason Engineering that fits well and has aluminum plates that go over the camber mounts. They are about 1/8" thick, not heavy like the craven plates.

I thought about just trimming in A square but that creates weak spots in the corners. I'm still doing research to figure out the best way to do it.

I have also been thinking about adding a cutout to my exhaust so I could quiet everything down for commutes with a 2.5 inch exhaust but have the flow of an open 3" system when needed. So I had my friend make me a turn down the other day and stuck it on the car today. I've yet to start it but here it is

Let me know if you guys want a video, i'm sure it will be ridiculous,

Edit: It isn't pointed at my oil pan. Pointed more at the ground just took the picture before i adjusted it.

It's pretty loud. Here is just a iPhone video sitting in my driveway. Only revved up to 4500 due to tune settings. But you should be able to get the idea.

I dont know how to embed it so here is the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/65858591@N03/8777372180/

My solution to carbon buildup.

So after reading through all the posts about catch cans and our PVC system I decided this is the easiest thing to do.

First I contacted CZAR and purchased to of the caps from him.

First I removed to hose from the crankcase to the manifold and put in the two caps.

Then I went to the local auto parts store and picked up a neoprene plug and a breather filter (to substitute till I can get an appropriate length hose to run under the car)

This is the end result.

I have a longer hose now so all the crankcase gasses are come out of the front port and away into the air under the car. Not in my motor at all. If any of you are worried that this may cause positive pressure in your valve cover or crank case it wont. This is why,
so basically what im getting out of this, is you plugged the rear pcv hose and the attachment on the valve cover with some caps? then on the front one you just ran a hose from the pcv out part to down under the car so it spits on all the gunk out underneath? and then plugged the piece on the intake?

Yep. I'm going to do the same with the back one. Or possibly route it to the exhaust.
